Summary

The Sr. Team Lead, Freight Operations plays a critical support role in the day to day execution of freight brokerage activities. This individual oversees a small team of brokers and coordinates operational processes to ensure timely, cost-effective, and customer compliant shipment execution. They act as a liaison between operations and leadership, help maintain strong carrier and customer relationships, and promote a high-performance, service-focused team environment.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

• Oversee the movement of shipments to ensure they are executed on time, within budget, and in alignment with customer requirements.
• Assist in load planning, carrier selection, and troubleshooting service issues.
• Handle escalations, track service failures, and implement corrective actions in coordination with the Operations Manager.
• Monitor and ensure proper documentation including BOLs, carrier packets, and system data entry.

• Develop and maintain strong relationships with carrier partners and customers.
• Negotiate rates with carriers and provide spot/volume quotes for customer shipments.
• Resolve issues related to delays, damages, service discrepancies, and claims handling in collaboration with the broader team.

• Monitor key performance indicators such as on time delivery, margin performance, and unpaid carrier invoices.
• Assist in development of operational reports to the Branch Manager.
• Participate in initiatives to grow brokerage revenue and optimize profit margins.
• Recommend process improvements and contribute to continuous improvement projects.
• Support the implementation and early-stage operational setup of new customer accounts, ensuring seamless onboarding, process alignment, and service readiness across internal teams and external partners.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

• The Senior Team Lead will be responsible for overseeing the work of the team, which may include supervising team members and coordinating with other departments and teams. 
• Conduct training and ongoing coaching to enhance team skillsets and performance.
• Foster a positive, customer-centric, results-driven team culture.
• Support onboarding of new brokers and cross-train staff as needed.

 

 

Educational background / Work experience

• Bachelor's degree in business, logistics, supply chain management, or a related field is preferred, but not required. 
• At least 3 years of experience in freight brokerage or transportation operations. 
• Prior experience in a supervisory or leadership role is preferred. 

 

 

Preferred Qualifications

•  Certification in logistics or supply chain management is preferred. 
• Prior exper
