Summary:
This is a certified law enforcement position for the Prairie Band Potawatomi Tribal Police. This Position maintains, preserves, and protects the peace, welfare, liberty, and safety of the Prairie Band Potawatomi (PBP) Reservation and its citizens. This role will serve as the PBPN's certified K-9 special response officer. The handler is responsible for developing strong bond with the dog and teaching them specific skills and behaviors necessary for the job. The handler will also ensure the health and well-being of the dog and provide them necessary care and exercise to successfully perform their duties.
Minimum Requirements:
Driving: Must have a valid Kansas driver's license and be insurable with the Nation's insurance
Must be 21 years of age or older. A record of satisfactory attendance and performance in all prior and current employment.
Experience: 3 years of applicable experience as a police officer.
Education: High school diploma or GED. Successful completion of Kansas Law Enforcement Basic Training Academy or an equivalent Federal or State approved academy and certify as a full-time Kansas Law Enforcement Officer. Emergency Vehicle Operators course certification. Ability to pass and maintain K-9 certification.
Interpersonal Skills: A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required, in addition to normal courtesy and tact. Work involves extensive personal contact with others and/or can be of a personal or sensitive nature. Work may involve motivating or influencing others. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary and often requires the ability to influence and/or sell ideas or services to others.
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of Tribal and state laws, other codes, all applicable policies, and procedures within the PBP Reservation Nation and Law Enforcement Department.
- Must possess working knowledge of multiple court structures and proceedings. Must possess working knowledge of crime scenes, including securing the crime scene, identifying evidence, properly collecting, marking, and documenting evidence.
- Must possess a working knowledge of field interviews and investigative techniques.
- Basic knowledge of caring for an animal.
- Knowledge of handling K-9 units in related to law enforcement.
- Knowledge of right vs wrong.
- Knowledge of what is legal and what is not for a law enforcement officer.
