About the role
The mission of the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless is to work collaboratively toward the prevention of homelessness and the creation of lasting solutions for homeless and at-risk families, children, and individuals throughout Colorado. The Coalition advocates for and provides a continuum of housing and a variety of services to improve the health, well-being, and stability of those it serves.

Essential Job Functions
- Maintains positive and respectful interactions with others by greeting parents and sharing positive information about his/her child, by refraining from making negative comments about parents, children or other staff members and by providing support for fellow team members and other Renaissance Children’s Center (RCC) staff.
- Plans and provides an environment, which is, both age and developmentally appropriate for the children in the classroom using the Creative Curriculum.
- Works to build children’s social and emotional skills using Second Step and the Bucket Fillers curriculum.
- Interacts frequently with children showing affection, interest, and respect, as well as remains available and responsive to them. This includes the playground as well as the classroom.
- Plans and implements activities that stimulate the children’s higher-level thinking skills.
- Serves as a facilitator and co-researcher to the children’s acquisition of skills and knowledge.
- Utilizes guidance techniques which will not only provide for a safe and orderly classroom but allow the children to develop problem-solving skills and responsibility for their own behavior. Involves parents through documentation of activities as well as encourages parents to participate in curriculum development and other classroom activities.
- Participates in parent-teacher conferences at least twice per year.
- Maintains and oversees documentation of children’s progress through regular observation, anecdotal records, and collection of children’s work into a portfolio. Makes entries into Teaching Strategies GOLD throughout the year and completes checkpoints quarterly.
- Works with administration to provide a safe and sanitary environment for the children in the room. This includes hand washing and using Universal Precautions when dealing with bodily fluids.
- Monitors the numbers of children present in each classroom and remains aware of every child’s whereabouts at all times.
- Monitors the condition and supply of materials within each classroom; replaces supplies as necessary.
- Rotates materials with other classrooms to provide a challenging and exciting environment.
- Provides weekly lesson plans, which reflect flexibility and sensitivity to the formulation of activities based on the children’s questions and interests.
- Provides a print-rich environment, which fosters children’s growth in reading and writing.
- Takes and uses pictures in the classroom to provide documentation of children’s activities for them as well as their parents.
- Shares control of the direction of curriculum and activities with the children as appropriate.
- Participates in at least 15 hours of staff development each year.
- Maintains knowledge of and can meet criteria for high quality programs as presented in either the Early Childhood Environmental Rating Scale or the School-Age Care Environmental Rating Score, depending on the assigned classroom. Classroom must receive and maintain at least a 5.0 rating on the appropriate scale.
