SUMMARY

Work is focused on active involvement with the communities in which an organization operates.

This position focuses on active engagement with the communities served by the organization, including planning and implementing programs aimed at enhancing the economic, social, and environmental quality of life. Builds and maintains mutually beneficial relationships with local businesses, community leaders, and nonprofit organizations; coordinates community outreach initiatives to promote the organization’s image in a positive, community-focused manner.

Major Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Oversees compliance with the City and County Fair Housing and Public Accommodations Ordinances including implementation, monitoring, and reporting activities.
  • Oversees compliance with the City and County Non-Discrimination Ordinance (NDO).
  • Oversees compliance with the City and County Source of Income Policy.
  • Manages the processes for resolving complaints related to discrimination or unfair treatment in housing, employment and public accommodations, ensuring timely and effective investigation, conciliation, and enforcement in accordance with applicable laws and policies.
  • Prepares and delivers reports, speeches, and news releases to communicate key information to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provides specialized community relations services to individuals and groups, including staff support for Community Relations Committee subcommittees, engagement with special interest and community organizations, identification of community needs and available resources, and resolution of citizen complaints regarding inadequate services or perceived unfair treatment by public agencies or private entities.
  • Oversees and reviews staff work, provides guidance on conflict management and compliance with anti-discrimination laws, ordinances, and regulations; delivers training on complaint processing and mediation; and conducts annual performance evaluations.
  • Builds and maintains strategic partnerships with community groups, special interest organizations, and human service agencies to foster collaboration and enhance service delivery.
  • Collaborates with business leadership to develop strategies for addressing complex and sensitive community issues, including identifying priority locations for targeted initiatives.
  • Serves as a member of the leadership team, providing strategic input and contributing to organizational planning, decision-making, and policy development.
  • Implements and monitors performance metrics to evaluate progress toward departmental initiatives.

KSA’s:

  • Major course work in public administration, social work, sociology, human rights, business management or a related field
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws and procedures relating to civil/human rights
  • Thorough knowledge of community needs and human service resources
  • Knowledge of individual and group behavior and of effective ways of working with people
  • Ability to analyze, investigate and conciliate individual or group complaints of discrimination and unfair/unlawful treatment
  • Ability to make decisions independently within general policies and guidelines
  • Ability to organize and clearly communicate ideas and information orally and in writing
  • Ability to analyze, prepare and present clear and concise reports
  • Ability to analyze complex human service problems and to identify or develop resources to resolve those problems
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective collaborations with community groups, public and private employers and human service agencies and organiza
