Position Details
The Office of Career Services at The University of Tampa is seeking to fill a position for an Assistant Director of Internships to increase student involvement in internships. The Assistant Director will provide individual and program-level student support, to elevate internship opportunities university-wide designed to make students career ready for the world of work. The position will report to the Associate Director of Career Services.
Responsibilities
• Cultivate growth of the UTampa Internship Program through streamlined processes and expanded campus partnerships to support an increased volume of internships offered.
• Support the creation, launch, and management of the Tampa Bay Nonprofit Endowed Fund for paid internships at non-profits.
• Coach undergraduate and graduate students through individualized and group internship preparation, search strategies and resource development. (To include ethical and practical use of AI programs, identification of best-fit internships, and development of community connections).
• Assist with Internship opportunity development through strategic outreach to cultivate, and maintain relationships with private, non-profit, for-profit, and government organizations through variety of sourcing strategies.
• Support student career preparation by developing educational materials, presentations, and workshops, focused on internships.
• Assist with semi-annual tracking of non-credit bearing internships and its impact on post-graduate success.
• Create and implement a campus-wide, annual Internship Week.
• Collaborate with the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL), ensure alignment of internship preparedness within UTAMPA 201 Career Readiness curriculum.
• Support Assistant Director of Experiential Education in the development and management of a structured on-campus internship program.
• Collaborate with university stakeholders to develop relevant programming, services, and promotion of UTampa intern success stories to the campus community by identifying innovative ways to market the Internships for All initiative.
• Manage employer internship fair registration process, to include onboarding new organization with UTampa Internship program.
• Promote opportunities to students, faculty, and employers, to increase the number of students doing internships.
• Assist with implementation and support of office-wide programs including professional development workshops, job and internship fairs, and campus partner events as needed.
• Manage organization of applicants and selection process for Intern of the Year Award - part of UTampa’s Leadership Awards Night.
• Contribute to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of all cultures and backgrounds.
Qualifications
• Master's degree in Counseling, Student Personnel, Higher Ed., or related area.
• Three (3) years related experience in Career Services within an academic setting strongly preferred.
• Proven knowledge of career development theories, career counseling skills, and experience in utilizing and interpreting MBTI, Strong Interest Inventory, StrengthsFinder and CareerLeader.
• High level of customer service; collaboration, exceptional work ethic; attention to detail; organizational, problem-solving, and follow-through ability.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to speak effectively before groups..
• Strong skills related to critiquing resumes, interviewing, effective job search strategies, and solid project management skills.
• Demonstrated experience with career management technology including CRM’s such as Handshake online career resource tools, Canvas, and social media applications.
• Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality. Proficient with Microsoft Office products and familiarity with online resume and job listing systems; Strong skills in Excel and database management experience.
• Ability to work evenings/weekends as required.
• Knowledge of or the ability to quickly learn The University of Tampa software programs such as Workday and Microsoft Office.
• Willingness to embrace emerging technologies and innovative organizational practices.
