Mental Health Cooperative, Inc. (MHC) was formed in 1993 to serve individuals with severe and persistent mental illness.  Since then, we have expanded our services to children and adolescents with severe emotional disorders across Middle and East Tennessee.

Our sole purpose is to support and treat those challenged with serious mental illness and poverty. Although based out of Nashville, we serve several communities across middle and East Tennessee with satellite offices in Antioch, Gallatin, Dickson, Columbia, Cleveland, Murfreesboro, Clarksville, Cookeville, Chattanooga, and Memphis.

Job Title: Director of Revenue Cycle
Department: Finance & Accounting
Reports To: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
FLSA Status: Exempt

Position Summary: The Director of Revenue Cycle is responsible for the strategic leadership and management of the full revenue cycle process. This individual ensures efficient and compliant operations that optimize revenue capture and reduce denials to support the financial sustainability of the healthcare organization.  The director will work with other departments to ensure provider credentialing, eligibility, attestation, service pre-authorization, and other steps in the revenue cycle are completed at the time of service.  The Revenue Cycle Director will also work with IT and other departments on EHR system configuration to help position the company for growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and oversee all functions of the revenue cycle including registration, insurance verification, medical coding, charge entry, billing, accounts receivable, denials management, and collections.

  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to improve accuracy, timeliness, and compliance across revenue cycle operations.

  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as days in A/R, denial rates, cash collections, net revenue, and claim rejection rates.

  • Collaborate with operations, clinical team, IT, finance, and compliance departments to ensure alignment of revenue cycle practices with organizational goals.

  • Identify and implement revenue enhancement opportunities and cost reduction strategies.

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and payer-specific billing and reimbursement guidelines (Medicare, Medicaid, commercial insurance).

  • Manage and mentor revenue cycle staff, including managers and team leads, fostering professional development and accountability.

  • Stay informed on regulatory changes, payer policies, and industry trends affecting revenue cycle performance.

  • Prepare and present regular financial and operational reports to executive leadership.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Finance, or a related field required.

  • Master’s degree preferred.


Experience:

  • Minimum 7-10 years of progressive experience in healthcare revenue cycle management, including at least 3 years in a leadership or director-level role.

  • Experience with hospital and/or physician group revenue cycles preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of medical billing, coding (ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS), and payer reimbursement methodologies.


Skills and Competencies:

  • Strategic and analytical thinker with strong problem-solving ability.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Proficient in using electronic health records (EHR), practice management systems, and revenue cycle analytics tools.

  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive change.

  • Strong understanding of regulatory compliance including HIPAA, CMS, and payer contract terms.


Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

  • Office setting; hybrid or on-site depending on organization policies.

  • Occasional travel to clinics or partner locations may be required.
