As an integral member of the Bursar's Office team, the Senior Accountant is responsible for the reconciliation of multiple A\R accounts between the Banner, Transact, and Workday systems. This position is responsible for ensuring accurate financial record-keeping, processing journal entries, managing student refunds, and providing support to students, parents, and university staff regarding these programs. The person in this role partners with internal and external stakeholders, in particular with the Controller’s Office, to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance with regulatory requirements. This position will also provide regular support to other positions within the Bursar’s Office team.This position typically operates on a hybrid schedule with some time in the office and some time off campus. In the early stages of employment, new employees can expect to spend more time on campus for training purposes and then move to a hybrid situation as business needs allow. Primary Responsibilities include:
Reconciliation and Journal Entries
- Completes monthly reconciliation for Student Accounts Receivable. This requires an extensive review and reconciliation of multiple clearing AR accounts and an understanding of how the Accounting System student subsystem relates to the Finance system. To complete the reconciliation, this position must have the ability to create reports that track transactions feeding between the Accounts Receivable module and Finance.
- Prepares and submits journal entries to correct errors found.
Assisting with System Administration
- Assists the Bursar with the Student Accounts Receivable module in the Banner system, including running monthly jobs and some system testing.
- Assists the Bursar with the administration of the CASHNet system, including creating new departments, item codes, payment codes, etc., system upgrades, and some system testing.
- Provides CASHNet departmental training to campus.
Student Refund Management
- Oversees the student refund process, ensuring that both ACH refunds and paper checks are issued in accordance with Title IV regulations.
- Partners with various departments to ensure refunds are accurate and make necessary adjustments to student accounts when errors are discovered.
- Responsible for student outreach and communication regarding the ACH refund process.
- Position will issue stop payment transactions in the JPMorgan Access system when appropriate.
Cognos Report Writing/Report Generation
- Responsible for creating new A\R Cognos reports for the Mines community.
- Updates and maintains existing A\R reports in Cognos.
- Attends the BI Committee meeting and keeps Bursar up-to-date on Cognos updates.
Customer Service
- Advise students, sponsors, and parents about tuition and fees and other related charges. Responsible for heavy volume of oral and written correspondence with students, sponsors, and parents.
- Coordinates with Financial Aid, Admissions, the Registrar's Office, and other departments to resolve student issues related to tuition and fees.
- Answers email and telephone calls with professionalism and clarity. A general knowledge of campus activities is required to be able to direct questions to the appropriate department/individual.
Graduate Contract and Special Billing Processing
- Using Banner, the OnBase system, and Cognos, this position will assist with the processing of institutional graduate contracts and special billing entries.
- Position will serve as backup to both Accountant I positions within the department.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field with at least 21 credit hours of accounting classes.
- At least 2 years of professional accounting.
- Experience in an A\R module within Banner or a similar system.
- Strong analytical skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with the Banner, Workday, and Transact systems, or similar software.
- Experience working in a higher education institution.
Salary and Benefits
$64,600 - $68,000 annual salary
