Summary

The Senior Researcher supports the Metropolitan Council’s Community Development Research Department by conducting applied research and developing accessible, data-driven products that inform regional planning and decision-making. As part of the Strategy and Product Design team, this role combines quantitative research, user experience (UX) principles, and information design to communicate complex topics such as demographic trends, development patterns, climate change, and regional economic conditions. 

Responsibilities include conducting research, facilitating user interviews and usability testing, designing surveys, creating public-facing content, and developing web-based interactive applications using tools such as Tableau, R Shiny, and GIS. The ideal candidate has strong quantitative or mixed-method research skills, experience translating technical information for diverse audiences, and a passion for using data and design to improve understanding of regional issues. This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement for residents of Minnesota or Wisconsin.
