Job Title: R&D Technician Intern

Department: R&D

Reports To:  Director of R&D

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Prepares reagents and standards according to specified procedures in a safe manner.

2. Prepares test paper formulas and assembles test strips.

3. Assists in data generation, computer input and analysis for development projects.

4. Completes routine performance testing of instruments and stock test kits.

5. Maintains accurate notes in laboratory notebook.

6. Assists in preparing data sheets and specifications of new and existing products.

7. Assists in the preparation of Spin reagents.

8. Perform interference and stability tests on new and existing products.


Miscellaneous:

1. Participates in operational excellence (OE) programs

a. OE training and lean events such as kaizen or a 5-day event.

b. 5-S program in the various departments assigned. 

c. DMAICs. Continuously looks for ways to improve both departments’ and own individual efficiencies and time management.

2. Notifies the Director of any work, equipment, safety, personnel problems, etc. and cooperates in resolving such issues as well. For example, requests assistance when systems prevent the efficient performance of duties or when a system fails. 

3. Complies with all Company policies (i.e. personnel, safety, etc.).

4. Performs other duties as assigned. 

Requirements

Qualifications/Requirements: 

Requires 2 years of college chemistry or equivalent experience working in an analytical lab in a related field. Must possess good laboratory skills to safely handle chemicals used in R&D laboratory; be familiar with standard laboratory equipment, e.g., analytical balance, pH meters, spectrophotometers, automatic pipettes, and volumetric flasks. Must be able to prepare standard solutions by serial dilution. Requires proficient computer skills for data entry into spreadsheets, plotting data and the ability to analyze results. Must follow established laboratory procedures and maintain accurate laboratory notebook records. Must have good communications skills and be able to work with other staff members, be organized and work independently. Must be able work efficiently and complete tasks on time. Requires good color perception and ability to pass a color test. Must have the ability to transport up to 30lbs. 


Environmental Factors/Physical/Mental Capabilities: 

Works indoors in a temperature-controlled environment. Handles various chemicals. Requires good problem solving, judgment, communication skills and color perception. Requires walking, standing, sitting, good manual dexterity, accurate color perception skills and ability to transport up to 30 pounds.
