POSITION: Occupational Therapist

OVERVIEW:

Delmar School District is seeking a dedicated Occupational Therapist to support students in accessing their educational programs and building independence. This position offers the opportunity to work collaboratively with a supportive team of educators and service providers in a student-centered environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Masters or Doctoral degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program
• Valid Delaware Occupational Therapist license or eligibility to obtain one prior to start date
• Experience in school-based or pediatric settings preferred
• Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
• Ability to work independently, manage a caseload, and travel within the district if needed
• Must be 21 years of age.
• Satisfactory Child Protection Registry.
• Mantoux skin test/PPD documentation.
• Cooperative Attitude
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, and parents.
• The State of Delaware requires all public school employees to undergo a criminal background check (state and federal) to determine suitability for employment.
• Appointment is contingent upon receipt of a satisfactory criminal background check, which is the responsibility of the employee.
• The State of Delaware requires new employees to be paid by direct deposit and to be part of a lag payroll system as conditions of employment.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Conduct evaluations and interpret results to identify student needs
• Develop and implement IEP goals and services aligned with student access and participation
• Provide direct and consultative occupational therapy services to students in accordance with their Individualized Education Program and Delaware regulations
• Develop measurable IEP goals and objectives that support student access to the educational environment
• Plan and implement individualized and group therapy interventions focused on fine motor skills, sensory processing, self-care, self-regulation, visual-motor integration, activities of daily living and school participation skills
• Collaborate with educators, families, and related service providers to support student success
• Participate in IEP meetings, eligibility meetings, progress monitoring, and reporting
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in compliance with state and district requirements
• Provide strategies and training to staff and families to support student success
• Remain current with best practices and professional development
• Ensure therapy services are delivered in the least restrictive environment (e.g., classroom, small group, or pull-out settings)
• Manage caseload effectively, including scheduling, service delivery, and compliance timelines
• Maintain confidentiality of student information in accordance with FERPA and other applicable laws, regulations and polices
• Make reasonable efforts to provide for the care and protection of school property, equipment, and materials.
• Practice sound interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with students and families.
• Maintain a professional relationship, working cooperatively with all school personnel.
• Collaborate with related service providers (OT, PT, SLP, School Psychologist, etc.) to support integrated programming and student progress.
• Participate in department or team meetings, professional development, and other school-related duties as requested.
• Report to work on time every workday, except as afforded by existing law.
• Perform other duties as directed by the school administration.
• Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to fluently speak and understand English.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands/fingers, and reach with hands and arms.
