Job Description

Metro State University, Minnesota’s public, urban university, and four-time recipient of the Insight Into Diversity Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award is seeking to hire a Cybersecurity & Network Architect.  This is a full-time/probationary position within the Institutional Effectiveness & Technology division.

Job Responsibilities:

This position exists to lead and support the University’s cyber security and networking infrastructure in the Institutional Effectiveness and Technology (IET) division and the Cybersecurity and Cyber Operations academic programs at Metropolitan State University.

The Cybersecurity and Network Architect is responsible for creation and continual improvement of policies, procedures, guidelines and controls related to Metro States cybersecurity, disaster recovery planning and implementation, and managing the network infrastructures. This position has advanced system knowledge and broad understanding of the university’s business and academic needs in order to ensure security, stability, scalability and integration across multiple systems. This position is a critical member of the university’s cybersecurity team and point for information technology incidents, incident response, and breach notification, as well as provides forensic expertise and support for data governance. This position is also the technical lead for all projects that support academic initiatives with a cybersecurity focus. In addition to these responsibilities, this role provides leadership within the organization by representing Metropolitan State University on Minnesota State system and State of Minnesota Cybersecurity initiatives.

Salary Range:

$36.52 - $60.24 per hour depending upon qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

The following qualifications are required of all applicants seeking consideration for this position. Only applicants whose resumes clearly demonstrate fulfillment of each of these minimum qualifications will be considered for the position:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience working with information system and network security areas of responsibility to include identity management, data security, application security, malware, applicable laws and regulations, computer identity theft, and SEIM technologies.
  • Well versed in data governance, risk management, and industry accepted information security frameworks such as NIST, ISO, SANS, etc.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Five years of experience administering and integrating networking services sufficient to design, configure, install, administer and monitor current networking technologies such as network switches, routers, firewalls, intrusion prevention, and wireless equipment.
  • Five years of experience implementing information security models that integrates multiple services.
  • Expert knowledge of networking fundamentals sufficient to direct decisions related to integration of services and security of an enterprise network.

Preferred Qualification 

  • Bachelor’s degree in application development, computer science, cybersecurity or related technology field, or equivalent work experience in network administration and cybersecurity.
  • Five years of technical experience with many of the following: Active Directory, IP telephony, identity management technologies, network firewalls, routers and switches, video teleconferencing and large network administration experience (e.g. over 1500 networked devices, multiple firewalls and integration of WAN and LAN services)
  • Experience with common project management methodologies sufficient to lead the implementation of core enterprise services.
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), or higher, certification.
  • Experience in conducting forensic investigations.
  • Experience designing and administering Cisco architectures.
  • Possesses industry recognized certifications such as CCNA, CCDA, CCNP, CCDP, CISSP, Security+, etc.
  • Experience working in higher education technology environments.
