Summary, Focus and Purpose
Our 3D Technologies (3DT) enterprise team operates as a business partner for raised challenges and problems to propose ideas and innovative solutions that enable new organizational capabilities. Our mission statement is to democratize inventing and make it easy and accessible to anyone at our company. Our core DevOps team collaborates internationally across the globe to deliver solutions that help everyone to be more productive and enable innovation, through CAD, 3D printing, and other services. Scientists, engineers, operators and others reach out to us for help on an engineering or scientific challenge, and we help them with their initiatives.
3DT Operations is the centralized location where our internal ideas and data are fabricated. The West Point 3DT lab houses about 50 3D printers, plus other fabrication equipment, such as a laser cutter or injection molder, and post-processing equipment. Hundreds of projects are developed end to end in the lab each year, and high-quality knowledge transfer between functions and fast-paced efficiency is key.
In this role, the co-op/intern will be primarily focused on Operational (Ops) support, through efforts such as:
A) Building 3D printers
Build prosumer grade 3D printers to expand our fleet, such as a Voron or Ratrig
Qualify new printers into service and help outline processing conditions to ensure equipment meets minimum quality controls (primarily FDM and Resin Vat)
B) Repair, upgrade or up-knowledge existing printers
Identify root cause of print failures across a fleet through systematic analysis
Perform upgrades or process improvement to improve speed, reliability and versatility
C) Continuous improvements
Identify workflows in the lab for improvement opportunities, such as automatic part removal on high volume small part builds
Document best practices and create SOPs for new equipment or workflows
D) Side gig opportunities
Participate hands-on post-processing techniques to learn practical tips and tricks for assembly, as well as ensuring high quality parts to go into a pharmaceutical cleanroom
Manning a table at outreach events as they present themselves, such as Take Your Child to Work Day
Exposure to and collaboration with different departments and multiple parts of a pharmaceutical processes
This role will be a primarily onsite, with an expectation for onsite attendance of 4-5 days per week.
Required Education and Experience:
Candidate must be currently pursuing degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related discipline
