What You Will Do

The Pharmacy Billing Supervisor oversees daily operations of the pharmacy billing team, including billing, payer relations as it relates to billing, claim resolution, and account receivable collections. This position supports accurate and compliant billing processes that improve revenue, accelerate cash flow, and reduce denials. The Supervisor monitors staff performance, identifies workflow barriers, and collaborates with internal departments—Pharmacy, Clinical, and others—to ensure timely authorizations and payments. The role also promotes process improvement, staff development, and high-quality service delivery.

The Opportunity

Leadership & Staff Development

  • Provide performance updates and coaching to team members; communicate development needs and progress to Manager.
  • Conduct monthly 1:1 meetings and document outcomes.
  • Delegate tasks, prioritize workload, and direct daily workflows.
  • Serve as a resource for payer requirements, claim submission, A/R, and precertification processes.
  • Conduct first-line coaching and disciplinary actions in collaboration with Manager.
  • Train new staff and support schedule planning and onboarding activities.

·         Supervises all clinic billing staff duties, manages timesheets and associated time off requests.

Billing Operations

  • Oversee claim submission, corrections, rebilling, and denial resolution.
  • Ensure claims include accurate provider information, modifiers, diagnosis sequencing, and required LCD/NCD criteria.
  • Review accounts, identify payer issues, and make recommendations for reassignment or correction.
  • Perform or support precertification and collection actions, resubmit corrected claims, and prepare or coordinate denial appeals.
  • Assist with internal chart audits related to E/M coding.
  • Maintain patient billing accuracy and documentation standards.

Revenue Cycle Optimization

  • Identify workflow or productivity barriers impacting the revenue cycle and collaborate with Manager to resolve them.
  • Prepare gap analyses related to billing operations, staff capacity, training needs, and software performance.
  • Recommend write‑offs and execute approved adjustments.
  • Monitor delinquent accounts and communicate status updates to the Billing Manager.

Compliance & Reporting

  • Remain current on payer policy changes, third‑party benefit updates, and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with government and non‑government billing rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Utilize routine billing reports as directed.
  • Escalate payer issues promptly and participate in workflow improvement planning.
  • Assist with developing provider education materials related to billing and documentation.

Requirements

  • 7–10 years of physician or hospital medical billing experience required.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Supervisory or lead experience, preferred.
  • CPC, CCS, or CPB certification, required.
