Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The Prenatal Educator is responsible for designing and implementing individualized programs for pregnant women to support their goals, prenatal development, and healthy pregnancies. This includes providing education on prenatal nutrition, fostering self-sufficiency across various domains, and promoting cultural sensitivity within the program. The role also requires compliance with Early Head Start Performance Standards, maintaining confidentiality, and collaborating with teams to deliver high-quality services. Currently, these duties are managed under the direct supervision of the Health, Nutrition, and Safe Environments Manager, ensuring adherence to program guidelines and policies. By addressing these tasks, the Prenatal Educator plays a critical role in supporting pregnant women and contributing to the program’s overall success.

This is a contract position that may convert to career.

Salary Range: $30.56 - $60.82 Hourly

Required:

  • Minimum 24 units in Child Development or Early Childhood Education, or CDA in home visiting, or equivalent coursework as part of an associate’s/bachelor’s degree.
  • Required to hold valid California driver’s license and have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures.
  • Preemployment physical exam and TB clearance. Pre-employment physical exam must state that the individual is physically able to perform the duties in the Job Description.
  • Fingerprint screen, criminal record, and child abuse index clearance, sex offender registry check.
  • Knowledge of HS/EHS philosophy, goals, principles, objectives, requirements; cornerstones of Child Development, Early Head Start policies and procedures, interviewing techniques. family dynamics, principles of adult learning, and advocacy/intervention concepts; crisis management and referral process; infant/toddler development stages and nurturing concepts; prenatal health and development; and community resources and referral processes.
