Note: The compensation range(s) in the table below represent the base salaries for all positions at a given grade across the health system. Typically, a new hire can expect a starting salary somewhere in the lower part of the range. Actual salaries may vary by position and will be determined based on the candidate's relevant experience. No employee will be paid below the minimum of the range. Pay ranges are listed as hourly for non-exempt employees and based on assumed full time commitment for exempt employees.

Minimum - Midpoint - Maximum

$23.00 - $26.44 - $31.28

 

 

Summary

This position is responsible for the accurate coding of outpatient emergency department coding services within the Health Information management department. 

All tasks need to be performed following the Operating Principles of Baystate Health.

Job Responsibilities: 

1) Assign ICD-10-CM and/or CPT codes to medical records

2)  Adheres to Coding Conventions and coding guidelines

3)  Participates in both regularly scheduled educational group coding meetings and 1 to 1 meetings

4)  Meets the minimum productivity and quality coding standards set forth by BHS

5)  Maintains confidentiality of patient health information

6) Collaborates with other departments both within and outside of Health information management

Preferred Work Experience: 

1) Minimum of 1-2 years as a coder or equivalent experience

Minimally Required Education: 

1) Certificate in medical coding and billing

Skills and Competencies: 

Ability to analyze, solve problems

Ability to utilize verbal and written communication effectively

Ability to work independently, self motivate and work as a team

Some Computer knowledge

Knowledge of ICD-10-CM codes, ICD-10 PCS codes, CPT codes, APC's, APG's, and DRG's, as appropriate

Education:

GED or HiSET (Required)

Certifications:

Certified Coding Specialist - American Health Information Management AssociationAmerican Health Information Management Association
