Summary:

The Float RN is committed to providing exceptional patient care across various units within our hospital. The float pool RN plays a crucial role in ensuring seamless delivery of care by providing support to multiple departments as needs arise. The float pool RN will be an adaptable, skilled healthcare professional who thrives in diverse clinical environments. The primary responsibility will be to provide high-quality nursing care across multiple units within the hospital, including but not limited to medical-surgical, telemetry, critical care, emergency, obstetrics, and surgical services. Coverage to other departments such as cardiac rehab, oncology, breast health, and care management will be determined on an as-needed basis based on the skill, experience, tenure, and education of the RN fulfilling the float RN role.

Requirements

  

Education, Training, or Certifications Required:

1.  Current Maine licensure as a registered professional nurse.

2.  BLS and ACLS certifications.

3.  TNCC and PALS certifications within one year of hire.

Experience Required:

1.  At least one year of nursing experience

2.  Recent training/experience in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient  care.

Special Requirements:

1.  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential.

2.  Possess basic computer skills.

3.  Possess skills necessary for providing ACLS and Critical Care, including defibrillation and use of PA lines, Tran venous Pacemaker, and External Pacemaker.

4.  Demonstrates proficient IV skills.

Cognitive Requirements:

1. Taking in, processing, and applying clinical information in various patient care situations.

2.  Ability for high performance under stressful situations.

3.  Must be able to prioritize and follow through.

4.  Ability to evaluate effectiveness/appropriateness of services, including resource utilization and allocation.

Physical Demands:

1.  Able to sit, stand, and walk for an 8-12 hour shift.

2.  Adequate hearing, vision, speech, and manual dexterity.

3.  General health must be such as to regularly work scheduled hours.

4.  Able to lift and carry 25-50 pounds (assisting patients in and out of bed, etc.).

Environment:

1.  Potential for exposure to blood and body fluids.

2.  Potential for exposure to contagious diseases.

3.  Potential for periods of high stress.
