Position Overview

We're looking for an experienced Scrum Master to guide our teams in adopting and continuously improving best-in-class Agile practices. This role is perfect for a tactical problem-solver who embodies the servant leadership mindset, always ready with a "how can I help" attitude that can jump in and fill gaps to keep our teams focused on delivering value. You'll also be firm in holding teams accountable to their commitments and working agreements, and you'll confidently navigate the hard discussions through challenges and pushbacks.

You'll be instrumental in fostering an environment where Agile principles thrive. You'll coach, mentor, and facilitate teams in their journey towards self-organization and high performance, utilizing a range of methodologies including, but not limited to: Scrum, Kanban, Extreme Programming (XP), Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), Large-Scale Scrum (LeSS), Scrum@Scale, and Nexus.

What You'll Do:

  • Champion Agile Adoption: Lead teams through implementing and refining Agile methodologies, ensuring practices are tailored to their needs and goals.
  • Facilitate Team Effectiveness: Organize and facilitate Agile ceremonies (e.g., daily stand-ups, sprint planning, retrospectives, demos), making sure they're productive and engaging.
  • Remove Impediments: Proactively identify and eliminate obstacles that hinder team progress, acting as a dedicated problem-solver to keep development flowing smoothly.
  • Coach and Mentor: Provide guidance and support to team members on Agile principles, roles, and practices, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
  • Drive Continuous Improvement: Encourage and implement feedback loops and process adjustments to enhance team performance, quality, and delivery predictability.
  • Promote Collaboration: Foster a highly collaborative and transparent environment within and across teams.
  • Ensure Accountability: Firmly but fairly hold teams accountable to their working agreements, commitments, and established Agile practices.
  • Keep Teams Organized: Ensure the team's work is well-structured and visible, helping them manage their backlog and workflow efficiently.
  • Fill Operational Gaps: Step in as needed to assist with various team operations, such as backlog refinement, stakeholder communication, or project coordination, allowing the team to maintain focus on development tasks.
  • Manage Difficult Conversations: Confidently engage in and manage challenging discussions with leaders and stakeholders, advocating for the team and Agile principles.
  • Report on Progress: Provide clear and concise updates on team progress, impediments, and metrics to relevant stakeholders.

What You'll Bring to Zelis:

  • Proven experience leading multiple teams in an Agile environment.
  • Deep understanding and practical experience with various Agile frameworks (e.g., Scrum, Kanban, XP, SAFe, LeSS, Scrum@Scale, Nexus).
  • Exceptional servant leadership skills, with a demonstrated ability to empower teams and prioritize their needs, always asking, "How can I help?"
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive, hands-on approach to tackling challenges.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills, including the ability to manage tough discussions effectively.
