Job Description

The Legal Talent Acquisition Manager manages and implements the law student recruitment process, summer associate program, and law school engagement in the Washington, DC and New York offices. Manager works closely with other members of the Legal Talent Acquisition team to implement firm-wide initiatives.

Job Responsibilities

  • Effectively manages the full-cycle law student recruitment process for the DC and New York offices, focusing on efficiency, top talent, and first-rate candidate experience.
  • Attends and facilitates all DC and New York hiring committee meetings, interviews law student candidates, provides interview evaluations, and makes hiring recommendations to the committee.
  • Works with the firm-wide Legal Talent Acquisition team to plan and facilitate interviewer training and other on-campus interview and callback interviewer prep meetings and logistical correspondence to attorneys and candidates for the DC and New York office, as well as supports these efforts across the firm.
  • Develops and maintains strong working relationships with law school career office contacts and manages strategic campus engagement events and initiatives related to candidate outreach, pipeline, and firm branding.
  • Communicates effectively and responsively with candidates, the DC hiring committee, and the firm-wide Legal Talent Acquisition team on all aspects of the recruitment process.
  • Works with the firm-wide Legal Talent Acquisition team to develop and lead a first-rate and comprehensive summer associate program in the DC and New York offices, including orientation, training, practice group programming, and social events.
  • Monitors summer associate workloads and assignment evaluations to ensure continuous feedback and balanced workloads; acts as a mentor and coach to summer associates; troubleshoots issues and provides feedback to Summer Associate Chairs and the Assistant Legal Talent Acquisition Director.
  • Facilitates the summer associate mid-summer and final reviews as well as the offer decision process.
  • Manages and facilitates the 1L LCLD recruitment process.  
  • Oversees coordination of first-year associate pre-arrival communication, on-boarding, and orientation logistics process.
  • Collaborates with the Legal Talent Acquisition team to ensure firmwide consistency on effective and creative programming and best practices; manages the communication process of law student recruiting policies, procedures, and information to Legal Talent Acquisition team; assists with managing compliance and team training of firm-wide policies and procedures.
  • Analyzes, compiles, and updates various law student recruitment data reports.
  • Maintains and updates law student recruitment content on the firm intranet site, LinkedIn page, external website, and other related marketing materials.
  • Approves and manages law student recruitment and summer program budget.
  • Stays current and informed on legal industry recruitment best practices, trends and news; is an active member of local legal recruitment organizations and NALP.
  • Attends and assists with facilitating recruiting committee meetings and department meetings.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, with attorneys, staff, and external candidates/clients.
  • Ability to work in a cross-functional team environment demonstrating reliability, dependability, customer service mindset and flexibility is essential. 
  • Must be able to work occasional extended hours during busy periods, attend DC and New York summer associate events, DC and New York recruiting campus events and travel when needed.
  • Advanced technical skills and expertise in candidate tracking platforms, electronic presentations, data presentation and social media, plus the ability to adapt and learn new technology and software.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize workload to manage multiple responsibilities and changing priorities. Must be able to work independently and effectively delegate and supervise junior team members to ensure accurate and timely work flow.
  • Ability to respect, protect and maintain highly confidential and sensitive information.
