Senior Vice President – Operations

Location: Based in Chicago, overseeing the Central Region

At Beacon Mobility, we’re more than just a transportation provider—we are committed to delivering safe, reliable, and efficient services that empower communities. We’re looking for an experienced and strategic leader to drive operational excellence and innovation in our School Bus and Paratransit division across our newly expanded Central Region.

About the Role:

The Senior Vice President (SVP) of Operations will oversee and optimize all aspects of school bus and paratransit operations while driving strategic initiatives, improving processes, and leading a high-performing team. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), this role will be instrumental in standardizing operations, driving growth, and fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

This is a high-impact leadership role requiring hands-on problem-solving, strong customer relationships, and data-driven decision-making.

This position is ideal for a "builder"—an executive who not only provides strategic leadership but also has the flexibility to be hands-on when needed.  The right candidate should be comfortable rolling up their sleeves to drive execution and implement improvements at all levels of the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and execute the region’s strategic plan, aligned with company-wide goals.
  • Identify growth opportunities and implement industry best practices to enhance operations.
  • Establish KPIs and use data-driven insights to measure and improve performance.

Operational Excellence

  • Oversee multi-location operations, ensuring consistency and efficiency across all branches.
  • Standardize processes to enhance safety, customer satisfaction, and service quality.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives and implement technological enhancements to improve efficiency.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team with direct and indirect reports.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and results-driven performance.
  • Provide coaching and professional development opportunities to help employees succeed.

Customer & Stakeholder Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including school districts and paratransit agencies.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor, proactively addressing client needs and ensuring top-tier service delivery.

Financial & Compliance Oversight

  • P&L responsibility for the division, driving revenue growth and operational efficiency.
  • Monitor financial performance, optimize costs, and make data-driven business decisions.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, industry standards, and legal requirements.

Required Qualifications:

The ideal candidate is a results-driven leader with extensive experience in multi-site operations and a strong commitment to continuous improvement. A background in high-growth environments and the ability to lead teams through change is essential.

  • 15+ years of leadership experience in transportation, logistics, or related service industries, with a strong focus on operations.
  • Proven ability to lead large, geographically dispersed teams and drive operational excellence.
  • Experience managing a P&L of $200M+ and working in a service-centric, field-based business.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Transportation Management, or related field (MBA preferred).
  • Strong strategic thinking, problem-solving, and data-driven decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement technology-driven solutions to improve operations.
  • Track record of building relationships and influencing stakeholders across all levels.
  • Ability to operate at both a strategic and tactical level, adapting as needed to support key business initiatives.

Nice-to-Have Skills:

  • Experience with change management and leading teams through growth and transformation.
  • Familiarity with government regulations and compliance in transportation services.
  • Background in scaling multi-location businesses while maintaining operational efficiency.
