JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Certified Medical Assistant provides nursing support for resident physicians in the Graduate Medical Education outpatient setting.

1. Prepares exam and treatment rooms with necessary equipment and supplies and assists physicians and residents with procedures. 
2. Stands in as chaperon when appropriate.
3. Obtains vitals and brief health history, escorts patients to the exam room, enters quality data into electronic medical record, and administers intramuscular and subcutaneous injections per orders. 
4. Assists with follow-up of referrals and outpatient testing orders. 
5. Performs telephone triage as needed following established protocols.
6. Aids with telehealth calls. 
7. Schedule referrals to specialists as needed.
8. Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

EXPERIENCE: Six (6) months of work experience in outpatient medicine. Must maintain CPR certification. (Experience with Obstetrical and Internal Medicine is preferred. Ability to communicate in Spanish preferred.)  

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: CMA, CCMA or LPN.  Must be Certified or Registered (Medical Assistant) in Tennessee. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Ability to communicate both on the telephone and in person.
• Knowledge and ability to operate Zoom application for the telehealth needs of the clinic.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
• Excellent communication skills. 
• Ability to effectively prioritize and manage time.
• Willingness to learn new skills. 

WORK SCHEDULE: This position may occasionally be required to work evenings and weekends.
