Position Marketing Statement
The Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM) is accepting applications to fill the position of Boiler Safety Supervisor. This position provides the successful candidate with the opportunity to assist in the administration of a statewide program which includes oversight of complex inspections and investigations related to the enforcement of the Illinois Boiler and Pressure Vessel Safety Act for the State of Illinois. The successful candidate will serve as a full-line supervisor and provide training to all field staff statewide. The optimal candidate possesses a high level of knowledge in the areas of steam engineering, operating engineering, boilermaking, steamfitting, and fluid transmission systems. The successful candidate will be required to apply seasoned judgment in arriving at difficult technical decisions and must have obtained a solid working knowledge of the routine practices of mechanical engineering. The ideal candidate possesses good communication skills and the ability to professionally interact with staff and the general public. Essential Functions
- Serves as staff assistant to the Boiler Safety Chief Inspector in the administration of a statewide program of inspection and investigation for the State of Illinois.
- Travels to administer a high-quality program of boiler and pressure vessel safety throughout the State of Illinois.
- Travels to worksites to supervise inspection procedures of insurance companies.
- Travels to direct and participate in inspections and incident investigations of a more complex or difficult nature which require the involvement of staff with advanced knowledge, training, and experience.
