Role & Responsibilities
- Work cooperatively with Northwest Health Services (NHS) providers, supervisors, and personnel to carry out the goals and objectives of NHS according to governing body requirements and established internal policies and procedures.
- Treat others respectfully whether it is a patient, fellow employee, member of management, customer, vendor or visitor to our premises.
- Attend meeting under the guidance of the Regional Dental Administrator.
- Verify insurance eligibility for dental for upcoming appointments by utilizing online websites or by contacting the carriers directly.
- Verify coverage and provide treatment estimates for patients. Obtain patient or guardian signature on patient’s treatment plan to confirm and verify treatment was explained to patient and they had an opportunity to discuss with NWHS staff. Scan into NextGen and provide patient or guardian the original.
- Contact patient before appointments to review payment information so patient will know what their estimated payment is prior to arrival.
- Answers benefit questions from patients, NWHS staff, and insurance companies as needed.
- Follow billing policies and guidelines from Billing Manager.
- Review all dental charts prior to patient’s next visit for current consent for treatment, insurance card copies, pre-authorization copies, and other required forms.
- Be able to multi-task and work on several projects at once.
- Request prior authorizations and pre-approvals prior to appointment and be able to intelligently discuss result(s) with patient(s).
- Keep work area neat and organized for proper completion of work tasks.
- Must comply with the provisions of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996.
- Perform related work as required or additional projected assigned by the Regional Dental Administrator.
- To obtain and verify insurance eligibility and benefits within two days prior of the patient’s appointment, except in the case of Emergency visits. Those will need to be made priority and checked prior to patient being seated.
- Responsible for contacting patient and obtaining correct insurance information—if incorrect in patient’s chart—and updating in NextGen, while putting copies of all documentation in the patient’s chart.
- Work with providers prior to sending prior authorizations to ensure all necessary information is available.
- Any other duties assigned.
- Possess cognitive skills necessary to read and interpret a variety of instructions furnished in oral or written form.
- Must demonstrate accuracy, proficiency, and efficiency.
- Possess the ability to see, talk, hear, read, write, kneel, stand, sit, react, and lift, pull and push up to 50 pounds.
- Must respect and maintain confidentiality.
- Always maintain a professional appearance and demeanor.
- Show high telephone etiquette standards, including communicating in a clear, friendly and professional manner.
- Must be able to handle stressful situations.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License, and proof of insurance for personal vehicle used for business.
- Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
