Position Summary:

The Associate Director of Insurance is responsible for setting strategic direction, leading high-impact insurance initiatives, and ensuring that all insurance products, policies, and operations align with business objectives, customer needs, and regulatory requirements. This position has significant influence over enterprise decision-making, vendor partnerships, cross-functional integration, and profitability outcomes.

The Associate Director will lead the vision, development, and execution of insurance strategies, guide multiple project teams, and collaborate with senior executives to shape SFS’s insurance roadmap. This role demands strong business acumen, deep industry knowledge, and the ability to navigate complex challenges while delivering measurable results.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute long-term strategy initiatives for insurance products and operations, ensuring alignment with corporate goals.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and thought leader for Property & Casualty insurance within SFS.
  • Drive innovation and identify new business opportunities within the insurance portfolio to maximize growth and profitability.
  • Ensure integration of insurance processes with Finance, Legal, Marketing, Operations, and other departments to achieve seamless execution.
  • Lead the creation, implementation, and governance of insurance policies, ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory, and industry standards.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with senior leaders, external partners, and vendors to drive operational excellence.
  • Negotiate and manage vendor contracts to optimize cost, service quality, and risk management.
  • Monitor and analyze market trends, emerging risks, and claims data to anticipate challenges and proactively adjust strategies.
  • Provide executive-level reporting on program performance, financial impact, and risk exposure.

Required Experience:

  • Eight (8) years minimum of progressive experience in Property & Casualty insurance,
  • Four (4) years minimum of leadership or managerial responsibility experience.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Risk Management, Finance, or a related field.

Skills Required:

  • Proven track record of leading strategic, multi-million-dollar insurance initiatives from concept to execution.
  • Strong knowledge of insurance product development, underwriting, claims, and compliance in a captive finance environment.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and negotiation skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
  • Expertise in project management tools, data analytics, and process improvement methodologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead change management initiatives and scale operations in high-growth environments.
  • Overtime required – required on an as needed basis.
  • Travel 0-10% - as required on an as needed basis.
  • Must have reliable transportation and live within a commutable distance to one of the following cities: Atlanta, GA; Dallas, TX; Detroit, MI; Houston, TX; Phoenix, AZ.

Qualifications Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in Business, Risk Management, Finance, or a related field is highly preferred!
  • PMP, CPCU, or similar professional certification.
  • Property & Casualty Insurance Agent License.
  • Experience with legal and regulatory frameworks impacting captive finance insurance operations.
