Job Summary

Genesis House, nestled in Manhattan's vibrant Meatpacking Area, is in search of a highly skilled Pastry Sous Chef to become an integral part of our esteemed pastry team. If your heart beats for the artistry of pastries, you possess a rich background in crafting delectable desserts, and your culinary passion knows no bounds, and have a background in Asian cuisine, we encourage you to apply. Fine dining Asian cuisine experience a plus!

 

This position requires flexible availability Tuesday through Sunday with operational hours from 11a.m. to 9pm.

 

Our doors swing open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. every Tuesday to Sunday, offering the patrons of Genesis House and Studio an exquisitely curated selection of Korean tea and an array of elevated Korean dessert experiences during the afternoon. The evening unfolds with our dinner service commencing at 5 p.m., where we celebrate the finesse of Korean dessert creations.

As a Pastry Sous Chef at Genesis House, your contribution will be instrumental in ensuring the triumph of our pastry endeavors. Your responsibilities will encompass:

• Collaborating with the pastry team to orchestrate the creation and preparation of a variety of delectable desserts.
• Engaging with our culinary experts to design and curate pastry menus that dazzle the senses.
• Pioneering fresh and innovative pastry initiatives, hand in hand with the marketing and pastry divisions.
• Assisting in financial stewardship by managing cost controls and optimizing expenditure for operational efficiency.
• Undertaking additional tasks as necessary to bolster the overall efficiency of our pastry kitchen.

Qualifications:

• A minimum of 2 years of experience in a Sous Chef capacity with a focus on pastry.
• Prior experience in the realm of fine dining, particularly in crafting pastry delights, is highly favored.
• A deep understanding of emerging food trends, emphasizing quality, production, sanitation, safety, cost management, and presentation.
• Exceptional supervisory, leadership, training, management, and mentoring skills.
• Possession of a ServSafe or Department of Health Certification is advantageous.
• Proficiency in computer skills, along with adeptness in MS Office applications such as Excel.
• Ideally, an Associate's degree in Culinary Arts would be preferred, especially in the field of pastry craftsmanship.
