Patient Service Representative

Baystate Health, Western Massachusetts’s premier healthcare provider, and home to Baystate Medical Practices, the largest multispecialty group in the region, is looking for a Patient Service Representative to join our Primary Care Team in Westfield!

SCHEDULE:

• Full Time
• M-F between the hours of 8:30am-5pm

LOCATION:

• Westfield, MA

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Greet patients promptly in warm, friendly manner demonstrating appropriate amount of interest or concern. 
• Confirm that we have referrals or pre-authorizations if necessary. 

• Maintain waiting area, check reading materials, play areas, etc. 
• Insurance Verification: Request proof of insurance; verify using appropriate systems, initiates contact for financial counseling.  Assist patients or customers fill out and complete medical release of information accurately.
• Co-payments- Requests, accepts and documents co-payments and payments on account balances and releases change. 
• Answers telephones in prompt courteous manner within practice time frames.  Routes phone call to appropriate person and/or creates message in system.  Asks questions when unsure of how to proceed.
• Schedules/creates new, follow-up or walk-in appointments according to practice guidelines.  Ensures a duplicate medical record number is not created.  Makes reminder calls to patients.  Cancels appointments managing wait lists and no shows.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

Requirements:

High School diploma or GED

Preferred:

Great interpersonal skills and able to work in a fast-paced environment a MUST.

Medical terminology, keyboard, Microsoft office products, schedule systems, medical records (electronic and paper), billing, basic math, language, reading and writing, customer service.

Experience in a medical office setting preferred.
