About the role

Under general supervision, but according to prescribed procedures, Security Officer 2 is responsible for ensuring all Security Team members under his/her direct supervision are following security policies, procedures and strategies to ensure the protection of patients, visitors, staff, property, buildings and grounds. Will be responsible for the direct supervision of their assigned shift security team to include but not limited to scheduling, and compliance of GBMC Security Department policies, procedures and practices. Will be responsible for assisting GBMC Security Officers under his/her supervision with shift operations and/or administrative issues. Will be responsible for the direct supervision of their assigned shift in the absence of the GBMC Security Officer 4 or Security Officer 3, or when directed by the GBMC Security Officer 4 or Security Officer 3 to assume responsibility for the shift.
The GBMC Security Officer 2 when not responsible for the direct supervision of the shift will assist the GBMC Security Officer 4 or Security Officer 3 in the daily operations of the shift.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent

Experience

  • Security, corrections, law enforcement, military or fire/EMS department experience is preferred

Skills

  • Must be willing and able to work unscheduled hours based on the needs of the department
  • Must possess effective written and oral communication and interpersonal skills with ability to deal with all levels of personnel and the public in a professional and effective manner; must be able to use initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines
  • Must be able to read, understand, implement and execute GBMC Security strategies as depicted in the GBMC Security policies, procedures, practices
  • Must be able to successfully utilize Microsoft Word to write and generate reports
  • Must display exceptional customer service and communication skills
  • Remain flexible to ever changing environments; adapt well to different situations
  • Ability to maintain satisfactory attendance and punctuality standard
  • Neat and professional appearance
  • Must be able to handle pressure of working with high volume public (constantly to occasionally depending on assignment)

Licensures, Certifications

  • Current State Driver’s License which must be maintained throughout employment
  • Current CPR certification that must be maintained throughout employment
  • EMTALA training is required and must be successfully completed within the new hire probationary period prior to the employee working independently
  • GBMC Work Place Violence Prevention Training is required and must be completed within the new hire period, prior to the employee working independently

Physical Requirements

  • Stand or walk constantly (for up to an entire shift) on various surfaces (tile, concrete, carpet)
  • Climb stairs, ramps, or ladders occasionally during shift
  • Bend/twist at waist/knees/neck to perform various duties
  • Occasionally lift or carry up to 50 pounds
  • Run as needed
  • Constant use of upper body extremities to perform tasks which require reaching/handling/grasping/fingering while using phone, notepad, writing reports, and other administrative tasks
  • Constant use of eyes (correctable vision to normal level required) to observe, read, interact with public and co-workers, view security monitors; includes hand/eye coordination
  • Work in various environments including adverse outdoor conditions such as cold, rain or heat;
  • Constant mental alertness and attention to detail required while setting priorities and following up on assignments
  • Ability to handle both common and crisis situations, calmly and efficiently as well as be responsible for directing shift team members, staff and visitors during such situations

Working Conditions

  • Work is performed inside and outside in all types of weather conditions on a regular basis, with intermittent exposure to unpleasant conditions such as noise, heat, dust, and disease. 
  • At any given time, all on-duty personnel may be required to assist with violent disruptive crisis patients.
