Who will you be working with?
L&M Radiator, Inc. is a global designer, manufacturer, and distributor or MESABI cooling and heat transfer solutions that are custom-made for heavy equipment in the mining, oil, gas, construction and heavy industrial industries. We are looking for an individual to join our Steel Prep team. This position will work directly with other members in the Steel Prep department, the Steel Prep Supervisor, Welding, Assembly, and the Cage, and may work with suppliers regarding materials.
How will you make a difference?
As a member of the Steel Prep team, you will have the opportunity to work with various tools and equipment – press brakes, shears, torches, hydraulic saw, drill presses, MIG welder, forklifts, overhead cranes, and other equipment provided. You will be responsible for assembling necessary material, prints, parts, etc. needed to complete current job orders. Transport parts and assemblies to and from assembly, steep prep and weld shop when needed. Assist department with prepping material for welding and fabricating small parts and assist in machine shop when necessary. In this position, you may also observe, guide, and assist with training. This role directly reports to the Steel Prep Supervisor.
This position rotates shifts every other week on days and afternoons. Day shift operates Monday through Friday 6:00am - 2:00pm. Afternoon operates Monday through Friday 2:00pm - 10:00pm. OT is possible depending on production needs.
What do we want to know about you?
- High School Diploma or GED with 1 year of experience or 2-year tech degree.
- Valid Driver’s license.
- 18 years or older.
What will your typical day look like?
- Communicate with the weld shop supervisor to establish priorities.
- Organize prints, all necessary parts, and materials for work orders.
- Transport needed materials from cutting and bending or assembly to proper location within the welding shop.
- Ensure proper identification of material and paperwork before and during transportation between departments.
- Ensure all completed assemblies and proper paperwork are delivered to the proper areas.
- Cut blocks and assist with other projects in machining.
- Support fabricators with small jobs.
- Tack small jobs together and prep parts for welding.
- Remove mill scale from parts where necessary.
- Operate steel prep equipment such as press brake, shears, torches, hydraulic saw, drill presses, MIG welder, forklifts, overhead cranes, and other equipment provided.
- Ensure accuracy and quality, following company procedures and specifications.
- Report any production problems to Steel Prep Lead.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area.
- Assist in other areas of production as needed and qualified.
- Perform work in a safe manner and follow all safety guidelines and procedures.
- Domestic and international possible depending on the project or training.
What about the physical demands of the job?
- Wear correct PPE – earplugs, protective eye wear, steel-toed boots, and work provided uniform (gloves when necessary)
- Lift a minimum of 50lbs.
- Stand on concrete for 8-10 hours.
- Drive forklifts in a safe, controlled manner.
- Work in high heat conditions.
- Read and follow instructions and blueprints.
- Practice and maintain safe work conditions.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required for Entry Level:
- Regular and reliable attendance.
- Must be able to read blueprints.
- Ability to understand and carry out simple oral and written instructions.
- Must be able to read tape measures, and learn how to operate calipers, micrometers, and other measuring tools.
- Ability to communicate, in English, effectively and clearly by both written and verbal means.
- Ability to follow instructions using SP’s.
- Good at problem solving and finding solutions.
- Basic computer knowledge and math skills needed.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment written math test, physical, drug and background test.
