Join our Commercial Lines Technology organization as an Entry-Level Software Engineer and help build the next generation of intelligent solutions that power Nationwide’s growing commercial insurance business. In this role, you will:
- Collaborate with experienced engineers, architects, and business partners to design and build AI-powered features that improve underwriting, pricing, and agent experiences.
- Develop, test, and deploy production-quality services and APIs that integrate machine learning models into our current commercial lines technology platforms.
- Work with real-world insurance data, using tools like Java, Python, modern frameworks, and DevSecOps practices to turn ideas into scalable capabilities.
- Learn and grow in a supportive environment with clear mentorship, hands-on problem solving, and opportunities to contribute to high-impact initiatives early in your career.

Additional Highly Preferred Skills:

This will be a hybrid role based out of the Columbus, OH or Des Moines, IA office. The team comes int two days a week.

Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
Develops, tests, debugs, documents and deploys software according to standards and best practices.
Applies secure software and systems engineering practices throughout the delivery lifecycle to ensure our data and technology solutions are protected from threats and vulnerabilities.
Uses DevSecOps practices, tooling and techniques.
Adopts continuous improvement and learning.
Handles project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables proactively.
May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Reporting Relationships: Reports to a Technology Manager/Director.
Typical Skills and Experiences:
Education: Undergraduate studies in computer science, management information systems or other related degree. Technology experience or non-traditional technology certificates can be substituted for an undergraduate degree.
Experience: One or more years of technology experience.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Proficiency of at least one programming language such as Java, C++, Python, JavaScript, etc. Knowledge of software development lifecycle. Good problem-solving skills. Ability to thrive in a team environment. Insurance/financial servi
