Summary
This is an entry level position that an employee starts at and will be eventually upgraded to Serviceman. Employees hired as a Helper Serviceman will be required to obtain a HVAC certification in two (2) years of the job bid being awarded, or will be terminated for cause. An employee must stay in the position of Helper Serviceman for a minimum of six (6) months and not to exceed two (2) years. An employee must obtain a HVAC certification and be deemed able to perform all of the work associated with the position of “Provisional Serviceman” in order to advance.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Duties will vary greatly with the type of work assignment. They may range from simple appliance connection to the installation of complicated industrial or commercial equipment.
- Set gas meter-all sizes including iron cased meters. Perform meter changes and removes (all sizes) for cause. Reset meters, involves reconnection of same. Install, extend or repair fuel runs. Connect and disconnect risers.
- Connect all gas fired appliances, domestic, industrial and commercial, including vent connection when required. This will also include some small electrical work that can include installing electrical connections, thermostats, pressure controls etc.
- Adjust and service all gas designed appliances. This includes (but not limited to) furnaces, space heaters, water heaters, grills, logs and ranges. This includes both domestic and commercial applications. No attempt has been made to list all gas fired equipment serviced under this job classification.
- Record meter numbers, sizes and readings whenever required. Also record time consumed on job. Issue necessary stock transfers or requisition for material and fittings required for the job. Must complete work order by inserting the information as requested thereon. Accident and damage reports must be made at the time of occurrence. Daily route sheet must be properly filled out. Operate truck from job to job.
- Have the skill and ability to correctly conduct a leak procedure and to accurately search for a leak and make repairs on both inside and outside gas leaks. Also, to be able to follow Company policies/procedures concerning handling all emergencies.
- May perform other related tasks, as assigned.
