Registered Nurse

Overview

The Registered Nurse (RN) will function as an independent nurse clinician in coordinating antepartum fetal testing for high-risk patients to include the performance, interpretation, and reporting of test results, assessment of patient status, educational needs, and follow up care. The RN will be required to travel to multiple locations each week, primarily our Fetal Diagnostic Unit located in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital and our office location in Newport News.

Responsibilities

Perform antepartum fetal testing to include non-stress testing and contraction stress testing. As needed, determine the technical adequacy of each test and independently assesses appropriateness of each patient’s testing based on established policies and protocols.

 

As needed, correlate the patient’s clinical history with fetal monitoring results and recognized signs and symptoms of maternal/fetal compromise.  Institute appropriate nursing actions for referral.

 

 Recognize normal versus abnormal results; prepares accurate, readable report of the test; contact physician and/or patient when necessary.

 

Coordinate additional care for antepartum patients to include follow-up testing or procedures, scheduling, physician’s orders, and hospital admissions.

 

Act as a liaison (case management and care coordination) between patients and Maternal Fetal Medicine regarding patient’s care.

 

Perform standard RN duties as assigned.   

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

Graduation from NLN Accredited School of Nursing with RN required, BSN preferred. 

Valid Virginia License as a Professional Registered Nurse

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

Minimum one year experience with high-risk obstetric patients and minimum one year experience in fetal monitoring preferred.
