Collins Aerospace is looking for a Sr. Component Engineer for our Cedar Rapids, IA site location. This Sr. Component Engineer position is part of the Component Engineering department, within the Electronics Sourcing organization in Central Supply Chain. Component Engineering is responsible for releasing new part numbers and specifications for the components and materials used by several Collins Aerospace sites, in support of new design activities. This includes qualification of components and materials used in Collins products. Component Engineering also supports manufacturing through failure analysis and troubleshooting of component and material issues that arise in production.

As a Sr. Component Engineer you will be responsible for RF/Microwave Interconnect & wire/cable technologies. We are seeking a talented individual to function as an advanced subject matter expert working with Design Engineers, production, as well as other portions of operations to ensure robust products are designed and built.  This includes, but is not limited to: identifying appropriate component technologies to meet specific applications, identifying the best manufacturers to source the parts from, and identifying technologies with suitable lifecycles for availability.  In this Sr. Component Engineer position you will also be responsible for qualifying different types of interconnect technologies developing and optimizing processing parameters for manufacturing, troubleshooting and root cause analysis, as well as providing direction on what manufacturers and technologies are preferred for Collins.

A successful candidate will have knowledge in the field of Mechanical engineering, as well as mechanical behavior and testing of materials.

What You Will Do:

  • Collaborate with plant and engineering staff to identify possible component-related problems.
  • Organize qualification test requirements for new components.
  • Organize failure analysis test requirements to identify root cause for problems experienced in manufacturing, in Engineering labs, as well as at supplier locations.
  • Review supplier product change notifications for any effects to the Collins supply chain and dispositions appropriately.
  • Work with Supply Chain functions to identify alternative suppliers and parts to ensure manufacturing requirements are met.
  • Occasional travel stateside and internationally

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required 

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Previous Component Engineering experience, especially with RF/Microwave interconnect technologies.
  • Lab testing experience with metals, plastics, and/or chemicals.
  • Experience working with interconnect technologies.
  • Knowledge of industry standards for interconnect technologies, Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing.
