Position Summary
This is a Full Time Pharmacy Technician position and will require some weekend work. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Promptly greets patients and families in person and by telephone with a friendly and helpful attitude.
  • Answers medication-related inquiries, requests authorization for refills, and provides guidance on prescription pick-up.
  • Responds efficiently to inquiries by health care providers with pharmacy question and refer inquiries to the pharmacist as needed.
  • Manages the administrative responsibilities for faxing, filing, and/or documenting in medical record for non-electronic prescriptions,
  • MassPAT PMP requirements, 340B eligibility, or other pertinent procedures.
  • Determines and updates patient's insurance information, calls insurance companies to verify coverage, processes claims through the patient's insurance.
  • Collaborates with the pharmacist and prescribers to formulate a solution, such as an alternative medicine or co-pay discount program. 
  • Compounds simple or complex non-sterile medications in accordance with established policies, procedures and professional standards.
  •  Maintains pharmacy inventory by monitoring medication and supplies stock levels, anticipating needed medications and supplies, and removing outdated/expired drugs.
  • Places and expedites orders, receives orders, rotates medications, restocks supplies
  • Ensures the proper storage of all medications in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Performs routine quality control, cleaning and equipment maintenance tasks according to established procedures and schedules.
  • Prepares and maintains related logs and records.
Requirements

Education/ Certification
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Current registration as a Pharmacy Technician by the Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy.
  • Current certification by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board or National Healthcareer Association.
  • Completion of a Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy approved training program or a minimum of 500 hours worked as a pharmacy technician trainee.
Experience
  • One year of hospital experience preferred
