Description

Summary

 Responsible for providing nursing services within the defined scope of licensure to women and their children in a residential treatment center setting. Provide motivational and educational support & guidance to assist consumers in meeting therapeutic goals. Coordinate and plan operation of the Certified Medication Aide (CMA) department. Provide supervision and direction to CMA Staff. Maintain appropriate staffing and oversee program schedule, safety, and orderliness for staff and consumer well-being 


Representative Duties:

  • Role model appropriate behavior, professional boundaries, respectful communication, and personal appearance in accordance with Employee Dress Code.
  • Provide an emotionally, physically and medically safe environment.
  • Interact with women and children in a positive, affirming manner.
  • Provide consumer-centered nursing care.
  • Conduct intake procedures and assessments. 
  • Assess consumer’s mental and physical status based on present symptoms and complaints within the scope of licensure.
  • Orient new employees to their role and the facility. 
  • Update and train staff on CMA procedures. 
  • Collaborate with psychiatrists, physicians, Program Director, clinical staff and other nursing staff to assure consumers receive appropriate care.
  • Educate and counsel consumers on preventive health and medications.
  • Prepare and maintain medical records in accordance with regulations and Palmer’s Policies and Procedures.
  • Transcribe physician’s orders, dispense medications, collect lab work and provide treatment as ordered by the physician.
  • Provide motivational and educational support and guidance to assist consumers in meeting therapeutic goals.
  • Be willing to work any shift as the need arises.
  • Monitor facility, consumers, and CMAs while on shift. Ensure consumers stay on schedule for treatment activities. 
  • Lead, monitor and assist consumers and CMA staff on assigned shift.
  • Assist in medication management as needed. Dispense medications as directed. 
  • Provide training to CMA staff. Assist in coordinating staff schedules to meet the needs of TWCC and ensure a safe and functioning living environment. 
  • Act as primary point of contact while on duty. Communicate issues and concerns with BHT Supervisor, Program Director, clinical staff, emergency services and/or other staff as appropriate. Inform staff and consumers of pertinent information.
  • Record observations. Complete paperwork for various duties in a timely manner and in accordance with Palmer’s Policies and Procedures. 
  • Maintain accurate shift log documentation of events that occurred while on shift. Communicate pertinent information to next shift and Treatment Team. 
  • Follow Palmer’s procedure for requesting supplies, maintenance, resources, etc. 
  • Enforce all facility rules fairly and consistently.
  • Conduct intake and discharge procedures using Palmer’s guidelines and requirements. Orient new clients to program guidelines and facility. 
  • Participate in ongoing in-service education programs and staff development programs. 
  • Maintain knowledge of agency policies, procedures and training. 
  • Maintain core competencies in relation to working with substance use disorders through continuing education and implement skills learned. 
  • Maintain facility security and assist in basic crisis intervention. 
  • Follow all safety, emergency and evacuation procedures to ensure safety of self, staff, and consumers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor and/or Director.

Requirements

Requirements:

  1. Current Registered Nurse (RN) 
  2. Ability to function as part of a multi-disciplinary treatment team
  3. Strong verbal & written communication and interpersonal skills
  4. Computer skills include spreadsheets, word programs, data base systems and e-mail. 
  5. Current First Aid Certification or Health Care Provider Certification
  6. Ability to work flexible hours
  7. Ability to lift 30 pounds
  8. Ability and strong commitment to work as a part of a team
  9. Preferred: Experience supervising nursing staff; Previous experience working in a residential treatment setting; Training or equivalent knowledge of substance abuse treatmen
