The Duquesne University School of Pharmacy and the Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences seek to fill a tenure-track faculty position in medicinal chemistry at the assistant, associate, or full professor level. Duquesne University embraces a teacher-scholar model of higher education; qualified candidates will show promise as educators and as scholars in their chosen field of research.   Successful candidates will have the capability to investigate scientific questions regarding drug design and development for specific therapeutic outcomes.  Areas of interest in medicinal chemistry include, but are not limited to, synthesis, structure-based drug design, computational chemistry, chemical biology, or related fields.  Duquesne provides a collegial atmosphere with opportunities for collaboration between schools within the University and with a variety of other academic institutions in the Pittsburgh region. Duquesne University is situated in Pittsburgh’s cosmopolitan and historic ‘downtown’ but set apart by its position atop the scenic Bluff overlooking the Monongahela River.

Duquesne University’s School of Pharmacy opened in 1925 with an enrollment of just 50 students. Today, the School of Pharmacy enrolls over 600 students in its Pharm.D. program (traditional and online pathways) and 45 M.S. and Ph.D. students. Qualifications

Required Attributes:

•Ph.D. in medicinal chemistry or in a suitably related field.

•Successful candidates are expected to have established or be actively developing a robust, extramurally-funded research program. They will also be responsible for teaching in the Doctor of Pharmacy and graduate programs. Additionally, applicants should exhibit a strong commitment to service and for mentoring students.  

Alternately, the successful candidate may possess any equivalent combination of experience and training, which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the essential job functions.  This includes commitment to the University’s values of diversity, equity and inclusion, and recognition of the importance of treating each individual with dignity and respect consistent with the University’s Mission.  Additionally, applicants must have demonstrated experience with, and understanding of, the broad diversity of the University community (students, faculty, staff and others).
