Job Summary

The Comcast Business Public Sector group is hiring an Accountant to support Federal and State universal service funding operations and management of the reimbursement process. The Accountant will assist with various processes supporting the E-Rate, California Teleconnect Fund and Rural Health Care programs. This role will ensure that funding is applied accurately and that claims are accurately submitted in a timely manner to appropriate agencies. This role will serve as a liaison between government program stakeholders including consultants, customers, and other Comcast Business departments (Compliance, Regulatory, Sales, Order Management, Billing & Accounting). Successful candidates should be able to work in a fast paced environment, work independently and possess strong attention to detail, communication and organizational skills.

Job Description

Core Responsibilities

  • Administer various aspects of Government Program funding and invoicing processes
  • Assemble and submit program reporting and necessary certifications/forms
  • Communicate with government program applicants and government entities on inquiries in a timely and professional manner
  • Advise government program applicants of funding status and pending disbursements
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly and ad-hoc reporting
  • Ensure balance sheet accounts are accurately stated based on compiled reconciliation procedures and agreement with source documentation
  • Maintain government programs receivables ledger and prepare variance explanations
  • Calculate and request monthly/one-time adjustments to properly record funding transactions, ensuring that adjustments have proper back up to substantiate the adjustment request
  • Provide ongoing analysis and review of government programs process, systems and tools, driving continuous improvements in the organization
  • Create/update process documents and flows on an as needed basis
  • Stay up to date with changes in Government Programs policies and requirements
  • Ensure that all documents are retained in accordance with government program document retention guidelines
  • Ensure all work product deliverables are documented in a standard, high quality manner and are presented clearly and concisely.
  • Provide support to both internal and external auditors during assessments and audits
  • Collaborate with cross functional groups to continuously improve data integrity, customer experience, and cross-team communications.
  • Interprets accounting data, analyzes reports and recommends action to be taken.
  • Prepares financial reports analyzing data for management review.
  • Calculates payments to regulatory authorities based on a review of contracts and regulations.
  • Ensures the balance sheet accounts are accurately stated based on compiled reconciliation procedures and agreement with source documents.
  • Enters monthly journal entries to properly record accounting transactions, ensuring that journal entries have proper back up to substantiate the entry.
  • Reviews financial statements for operating trends and results.
  • Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.
  • Regular, consistent and punctual attendance. Must be able to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and overtime as necessary.
