Kamehameha Schools (KS) is searching for a Vice Principal of Teaching and Learning to join our high school ‘ohana at our Kapālama Campus (KSK) location. The Vice Principal of Teaching and Learning will be responsible for K-12 teaching and learning initiatives and serves as the representative of the High School in K-12 committees and meetings. This role also manages resourcing for data and assessment, the languages content area, and Hawaiian-Culture Based Education. KSK’s mission is to empower haumāna to be confident ʻōiwi leaders with the motivation and agency to advance themselves, their ‘ohana, their lāhui and the larger global community. Job Summary

Assists with managing and supervising the daily administrative operations of the school, working closely with the principal, other administrators, faculty and staff to ensure a safe and productive school environment. Under the direction of the school principal, communicates to school professional staff, the design and delivery of all curriculum assessments, programs and related educational program functions for the campus system including the piloting, implementation, alignment, and timing and sequence of program innovation and change. Observes faculty in the classroom and provides feedback to improve classroom instruction. Attends various student and staff functions.

Essential Responsibilities

Leadership, Strategy, and Planning

  • Serves as an instructional leader to enhance effective instruction and high student achievement.
  • Facilitates the implementation of research based and culture-based instructional design and strategies.
  • Supports and communicates effective teaching practices and classroom management strategies.
  • Assists with managing and supervising the daily administrative operations of the school, working closely with the principal, other administrators, faculty and staff to ensure a safe and productive school environment.

Curriculum, Assessment, Instruction System

  • Under the direction of the school principal, communicates to school professional staff, the design and delivery of all curriculum, assessments, programs and related educational program functions for the campus system including the piloting, implementation, alignment, and timing and sequence of program innovation and change.
  • Collaborates and communicates with campus leaders to ensure curriculum change follows a timetable of logical and timely development, sequenced so as not to overload teachers with implementation responsibilities.

Program Delivery and Operational Oversight

  • Oversees and assists in establishing and maintaining an effective learning climate. Leads teacher leadership teams in the development and implementation of a school-wide plan for building and sustaining a positive culture of behavior. Analyzes discipline data and addresses areas of need to maintain and effective learning climate. Conducts parent conferences with appropriate staff and recommends disciplinary action.
  • Plans and develops the master calendar by working collaboratively with appropriate staff to determine activities, special events, class days, and professional development.
  • Ensures that curriculum documents are consistent in format to promote user friendliness for use by classroom teachers.
  • Develops broad implementation and communication plans for all curricular efforts on the campus with all stakeholders.
  • May serve in the role of Principal and oversee other operational functions as needed.
