Senior Accountant (Maternity Leave cover 9-10 months)

The Finance team at Marley Spoon is growing, with a mission to provide business partnership using best-in class financial data and analysis. Our aim is to help the company make the right, fact-based decisions to move the business forward. As part of this effort, we are now looking for an exceptional US Senior Accountant! This role can be either Berlin or US based.

The ideal candidate is an analytical detail-oriented individual who will manage our accounting records for our operations in the United States. You will be responsible for maintaining all accounting routines (e.g. A/R, A/P, Fixed Assets, VAT, and bank transactions) along with supervising two Jr. Accountants.

The ideal candidate will support the Global Head of Accounting Operations and the regional Head of Controlling in handling all accounting-related tasks.

What you will do:

This is a hands-on role that will support all areas of the business and senior leadership for the US segment of Marley Spoon. Expected tasks will include:

• Own monthly, quarterly and annual financial closing activities of the US segment, including contributing to the preparation of consolidated financial statements (IFRS). Knowledge of US GAAP is a plus
• Partner with our Senior A/P Officer and Procurement, Sourcing, and Fulfillment Center Inventory Management teams to delight our vendors, providing them accurate and timely answers on their requests
• Review and post imported bank transactions into the ERP software
• Reconcile intercompany payments and loan repayments within the Group’s entities
• Oversee fixed assets ledger entries according to the Group Accounting Policies
• Revise customer ledger entries and report issues to relevant teams (e.g., Customer Communication and Digital teams)
• Prepare payroll payments, posting payroll data and providing insights about deltas identified
• Generate monthly and quarterly Sales and Use Taxes statements and submit to the tax authorities
• Supervise US Jr. Accountants and review accounting procedures performed
• Gather, summarize and analyze a significant amount of transactional data and make reasonable conclusions to facilitate key accounting and business decisions
• Liaise with the Controllership and FP&A teams to help bridge the financial picture from transactions to expected business outcomes
• Develop, implement and maintain internal standards, processes and routines based on group requirements and introduce new processes/improvements as deemed appropriate
• Participate on a quarterly basis in physical inventory counts if necessary

The US is Marley Spoon’s largest region and as such brings with it a fair amount of complexity:

- $200m region

- Three brands (Marley Spoon, Dinnerly, BistroMD)

- Matrixed functions

Who you will work with:

You will interact with the global Marley Spoon finance team, especially the centralized accounting function based in Berlin, Germany and Lisbon, Portugal.

Requirements

• 5+ years of relevant work experience in Finance, Accounting and/or Controllership functions
• Bachelors or Masters Degree in Finance/Accounting required, CPA and/or ACCA preferred
• Experience in consumer products/manufacturing environments preferred
• Ability to thrive in a fast paced and dynamic environment where change is constant
• Exceptional analytical skills and clear communication style
• Eye for detail while being able to take a step back and understand the bigger picture
• Proactive, solution-oriented problem solver
• Ability to collaborate with all levels of the organization, including individuals outside of the finance function, across multiple time zones
• Public Accounting experience is a plus
• Proficiency with Microsoft Business Central (BC) or Navision preferred
