About the role

Calvin University is looking for a dynamic, motivated individual to be a Community Living Support Graduate Assistant. In this position, you will work alongside students in the Life & Career Studies Program to help them meet their independent living goals. Student goals are predetermined by their Person-Centered Plan, expectations and goals vary per client. Goal categories include home maintenance, cooking, socialization, and personal safety.

The Community Living Support Graduate Assistant will also be responsible for completing documentation paperwork after each shift. Community Living Support may be delivered in an individual or small-group setting.  

Calvin University’s Life & Career Studies program is passionate about serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disability and empowering them to gain independence and employment skills.  We are looking for a team member with the same passion for impacting the lives of those around them.

This position is a 32-week, part-time, live-in position. Hours for this position are flexible but will be consistent throughout the semester. Evening availability is required, must have reliable transportation and a good driving record, or be familiar with The Rapid bus system.

Specific job duties:

1. Ensure follow-through of the individual’s Person-Centered Plan (PCP).

2. Assist, model, encourage, and instruct to help the students achieve their goals.

3. Support students in reaching goals through productive and creative methods.

4. Document the student’s progress, training strategies, and new goals after each shift.

5. Safely transport the student when necessary. This may mean using The Rapid bus system with the assigned student.
