Job Summary:

In this role, you will be responsible for leading global, complex automation projects with external automation specialists in our production facilities. Working with site and global teams to provide directional leadership in defining clear scope, leading the automation technology selection process, managing the entire project lifecycle up to successful commercialization of an automation technology. Close cooperation with global engineering SMEs, the manufacturing sites as well other involved departments is a must for successful executing on these projects. This role will be responsible for identifying and managing cross-project dependencies, critical items, risks, and issues. You will communicate at multiple levels of the organization and be responsible for recognizing and engaging key stakeholders quickly and early in the process.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Drive & manage complex automation projects up to production readiness.
  • Be familiar with state-of-the-art automation technologies for material handling, transportation, factory integration as well as technology selection processes for the selection of the most economical (ROI calculation) automation technology.
  • Lead & track global project teams and outside automation firms in developing automation solutions including material handling & transportation solutions from feasibility study up to industrialization.
  • Establish the project plan to ensure a successful delivery of the projects according to best-in-class project management standards.
  • Drives/Support functions with the preparation of business cases, plans, budgets, and artifacts necessary to comply with the Project Delivery Process, along with supporting the overall project objectives.
  • Cultivates teamwork through leadership and fill knowledge or skill gaps on project teams where needed.
  • Manage and communicate complex concepts while anticipates potential objections and persuading senior executives, to adopt a different point of view.
  • Anticipate internal and or external business challenges, vendor and/or regulatory issues; recommends process, product or service improvement.
  • Close cooperation with West’s global procurement function to ensure that Master Procurement Agreement (MPAs) are in place with all 3rd party suppliers and that the capital costs of the equipment are negotiated to ensure that West receives the most cost-effective solutions.
  • Close cooperation within global subject matter experts for equipment & processes as well as supporting functions in the network.
  • Establish standard reporting template to be used by sites to ensure reporting data is consistent, accurate and complete.
  • Drive completion of project milestones, as determined by the team, based on timelines and project goals through all stages of the product development lifecycle.
  • Monitor resource needs and issues, work closely with resource managers to develop action plans to ensure program commitments remain on track.

  • Ensure projects are planned properly, including financials, resourcing, scheduling, and the business case, in support of quality deliverables.
  • Define, drive and manage change management and communications activities that support assigned programs.
  • Communicate functional key messages, goals, and objectives to functional team members in their local geographies or business units.
