Job Description:

DESCRIPTION: Do you have a passion for the outdoors? Enjoy working hard and learning new skills? Join the team at Ponca State Park to help create a welcoming landscape for visitors to enjoy. As a Grounds Leader you will play a vital role in assisting with the maintenance and upkeep of the park’s grounds, equipment, trails, and management areas. Nebraska’s amazing wildlife, natural beauty, and outdoor recreation is waiting for you!

JOB DUTIES:

• Perform essential grounds, equipment, and trail maintenance.
• Mowing, watering, fertilizing, pruning, tree planting and removal, snow removal, road grading, noxious weed and insect control, prescribed fire, and other natural resource management duties as required.
• Operate and maintain all machinery, equipment, vehicles, and tools used in the performance of duties.
• Lead and supervise staff to ensure quality and efficiency.
• Schedule, assign and coordinate work assignments of employees and partners.
• Maintain and repair park infrastructure including picnic areas, playgrounds, water features, trails, campgrounds, shelters, roadways, etc.
• Ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations.
• Coordinate with park superintendents for budgeting, purchasing supplies, and scheduling maintenance, etc.
• Assist with visitor services, park events, customer service concerns (i.e. permit sales, fee collection, other programming) and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: No specific education, training, or experience is required for entry to this class.

PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:  Experience in lawn mowing, turf maintenance, hedge trimming, snow removal, gardening, farming, horticulture, landscaping, or grounds keeping. Must be at least 18 years of age and have driver’s license.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES: 

• Knowledge of the operation of various types of equipment associated with grounds maintenance. 
• Ability to operate and maintain equipment, hand tools, and powered tools essential for maintenance and repair work including chainsaws, weed whips, mowers, tractors and trucks.
• Perform heavy physical labor and to work in adverse weather conditions.
• Communicate effectively with staff.
