Position Overview

Under general direction, organizes, plans, executes, controls, and evaluates the statewide DUI Laboratory and Breath Analysis Operator (BAO) Certification Programs for the Division of Training and Academy; oversees and assists in preparing a variety of complex and time sensitive legal and grant related documents for the Alcohol and Substance Testing Section (ASTS); performs a broad range of complex staff functions related to federal and state statutes and regulations concerning the DUI Laboratory and BAO Certification Programs used in the ASTS; provides management and administrative support, responds to public.

Essential Functions

  • Implements operational policies as the DUI functional administrator of the statewide DUI Laboratory and Breath Analysis Operator Certification Programs for the section supervisor.
  • Sets and organizes the goals and objectives for the section’s DUI Laboratory and Breath Analyzer Analysis Operator Certification Programs.
  • Coordinates with manufacturers of blood, urine, and saliva devices and diagnostic equipment to obtain and relay technical information to coroners, law enforcement personnel and field staff.
  • Serves as a liaison between the ASTS and other divisions within the Illinois State Police.
  • Provides management and administrative support, responds to public queries.
  • Conducts and evaluates efficacy and efficiency studies of the DUI Laboratory and Breath Analysis Operator Certification Programs for the section supervisor.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college, preferably with coursework in business or public administration.
  • Requires one year of responsible administrative experience in a public or business organization, or completion of an agency approved professional management training program.
