POSITION SUMMARY

This position is a key member of the accounting department dealing with all aspects of Heartland Label Finance & Accounting. This role will involve data manipulation and analysis to drive process improvements across the organization. Core responsibilities will include product costing, variance analysis, and financial statement analysis. The successful candidate will be expected to immerse themselves in various facets of our business, with potential for growth into a leadership position.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Financial Reporting: Prepare accurate and timely financial statements in line with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Accounts Payable: Review, approve, account for, and ensure timely payment of Accounts Payable.
  • External Auditors: Prepare necessary documentation for external audits.
  • Bank Reconciliation: Handle reconciliation of bank accounts.
  • Product Costing: Become adept in understanding and managing Heartland Label’s product costing.
  • Data Accuracy: Maintain accuracy of data from subsidiary ledgers.
  • Operational Support: Collect and monitor data to assist operations in making both daily and strategic long-term decisions.
  • Profitability Analysis: Conduct profitability analyses related to customers and products.
  • Performance Improvement: Provide gap resolution for underperforming areas.
  • Capital Justifications: Prepare capital justifications and conduct post-project reviews.
  • Online Banking: Utilize the online banking system to issue and approve payments.
  • Balance Sheet Reconciliation: Reconcile selected balance sheet accounts.
  • Internal Controls: Monitor and develop internal controls to minimize financial risk and identify optimization opportunities.
  • Variance Analysis: Calculate monthly expense variance and recommend cost-saving measures.
  • Budget Preparation: Assist in the preparation of the annual budget.
  • Cost Management: Monitor item costing and related inputs to drive profitability.
  • Payroll Management: Serve as back up for processing of payroll for all three locations.
  • Project Collaboration: Work on various efficiency-improvement projects with the Controller, General Manager, and operations management.

SKILLS & ABILITIES 

Required Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance

Required Experience 

  • None

Preferred Experience

  • 1-3 years of professional accounting work experience
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Previous cost accounting experience

Skills

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Solid understanding of accounting principles, standards, and regulations
  • Experience with accounting software and databases.
  • Exceptional data management and analysis skills
