About the role

WSP is currently initiating a search for a full-time Lead Hydropower Project Manager for our Salt Lake City, UT office.

The following locations will also be considered: Boston, MA or Portland, OR

Be involved in projects within our Clean Energy Business Line and be a part of a part of a rapidly expanding group that provides trusted advisor and engineer of record services to Hydropower and Utility clients throughout the United States.

This position directly advances our clients responses to Climate Change by supporting the owners and operators of clean hydro power and the integration of other renewable energy resources nationwide. This role provides Project Management expertise, including high-level technical assistance and guidance for multi-site/phase due diligence, investigation, remediation, impact assessment, permitting, design, development, and construction of hydropower infrastructure and related energy projects.  Tasks include project planning, budget, schedule, and scope development.  Managing multiple discipline task leaders and negotiating with clients and their representatives.  Overseeing the research, design, concept development, planning, and construction of energy facilities, specifically hydropower, and supporting the integration of solar, wind or biomass power plants; transmission and distribution substations.  Substantiates reports and documentation to advise on material, installations, design, component, and construction specifications.  This a fantastic chance to work with a dynamic team within the premier engineering firm that is leading the field in hydropower, pumped storage, and the integration of solar and batteries, and wind generation throughout the United States. Your days will be a mix of working from the home or the office, and field trips to the nation’s majestic mountains and rivers.

Your Impact:

Lead a variety of Engineering projects including the planning and completion of inspections and investigations on hydropower structures and other renewable energy developments, determining the safety and efficacy of such facilities or structures, execute rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts, as well as new design and construction projects.

Technical Responsibilities:

  • Ability to manage complex projects with variable objectives and aggressive timelines.
  • Lead hydropower projects, dam safety, spillway and tunnels, and seismic remediation projects.  Support or lead electrical infrastructure upgrades such as switches, relays, yard equipment and substation upgrades.
  • Maintaining and enhancing client relationships and working closely with key client relationship managers. Support project pursuits including estimating budgets, scope of work, and schedules.

Leadership Responsibilities:

  • May arrange, lead, monitor, and supervise a group of employees to achieve goals that contribute to the growth of the organization.
  • Conduct Performance Analysis & Provide Feedback/Suggestions for internal growth.
  • Project Management & Allocation of Team Members/Resources to handle specifics projects.
  • May mentor and lead advancing team members in project management and/or Civil Engineering

Who You Are:

  • Strong knowledge of relevant structural and civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing intricate ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Strong self-leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to interact with clients, regulators, project managers, and employees effectively, persuasively, and tactfully at all levels of the organization.
  • Works independently to provide guidance and leadership to mid-level to senior level team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
  • Experienced with providing critical review for documents and preparing technical deliverables and plans with a high degree of complexity.
  • Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, computations, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness at coordinating and assertively directing subcontractors and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Proficiency with technical writing, office automation, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
