About the role

The Vice President of Finance and Accounting is a key member of the leadership team, responsible for overseeing financial and accounting activities within the organization. This role involves strategic planning, financial management, and ensuring the integrity of financial information. The VP of Finance and Accounting will work closely with other senior leaders to drive the company's financial strategy and performance, including the management of a scaled, shared services function to support LRS's growth strategy.

 

Reports To: Chief Financial Officer

 

Accounting Operations:

  • Establish and maintain accounting principles, policies, practices, procedures and initiatives.
  • Evaluate accounting policies and procedures, internal controls systems, accounting software and supporting databases as needed. Lead software upgrades and system changes as needed.
  • Implement and maintain robust internal controls and procedures.
  • Oversee the maintenance and accuracy of the general ledger, ensuring all transactions are recorded correctly.

Shared Services Management:

  • Manage and lead a scaled shared services function to support the company's growth.
  • Optimize shared services processes to enhance efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  • Ensure the shared services function aligns with overall business objectives and provides high-quality support to various departments.

 

Risk Management:

  • Implement and maintain robust internal controls to prevent fraud and ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Recognize potential threats to financial performance, such as market volatility, regulatory changes, and technological advancements.
  • Own and lead the annual external financial audit.
  • Ensure compliance with all tax regulations, including preparing and filing tax returns and managing tax audits.
  • Ensure the company's financial practices are in line with statutory regulations and legislation.

Financial Management:

  • Lead the timely and accurate completion of all monthly financial reporting in accordance with GAAP and other standard regulations.
  • Oversee the preparation of internal and external financial statements, reports, and forecasts.
  • Ensure accurate and timely filings.
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and standards.
  • Support the FP&A team on monthly, quarterly, annual reporting to management and the board of directors.
  • Contribute to analysis and financial integration of M&A opportunities and initiatives.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Leadership and Team Development:

  • Build, manage and retain a high performing accounting team.
  • Directly manage the accounting, billing, accounts payable and accounts receivable functions.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
  • Collaborate with other departments to support overall business objectives.

Scope of Responsibility:

  • Carries out managerial responsibilities in accordance with Company policies and applicable laws. Has approval-level input regarding hiring, terminations, disciplinary actions, performance management, as well as assessing the needs of the department and/or functional area.
  • Manages a team of direct and indirect reports in the following functions accounting, billing, accounts payable and accounts receivable.
Qualifications

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

  • Experience with M&A activities.
  • Experience in Waste, Industrial Services, Manufacturing, or Transportation industries strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of financial regulations and accounting standards.
  • Experience in managing shared services functions in a growth-oriented environment.
  • Experience leading through successful annual audits.
  • Exceptional leadership skills, including demonstrated ability to implement change.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing teams.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work with all levels of the organization to drive initiatives and projects to desired outcomes.
  • Strong analytic capability and propensity for continuous improvement.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or related field; MBA preferred.
  • CPA required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in finance and accounting, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
