JOB SUMMARY:
The Lead Mechanic performs general supervision, performs advanced level preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of all packaging equipment and systems, and conducts line changeovers and mechanical set-up of all equipment in accordance with the packaging schedule; provides lead direction and training to other level staff and performs technical and specialized mechanical set-up duties.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Carries out responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies, procedures, and state federal and local laws.
- Conducts required monthly preventative maintenance on all packaging equipment.
- Performs troubleshooting and repairs of packaging and processing equipment, and
- Mechanical and control systems.
- Performs schedule and other maintenance of all packaging equipment and performs specialized and critical repairs.
- Performs packaging line set-ups and changeovers, when needed or required.
- Provides work direction to other staff and organizes and assists with department training programs.
- Complies with all company equipment, safety, OSHA rules and regulations.
- Complies with all company policies and procedures.
- Maintains maintenance work areas in a clean and orderly manner.
- Support department goals for output and efficiencies.
- Performs related duties as assigned.

SUPPORTIVE FUNCTIONS
In addition to the performance of the essential functions, this individual may be required to perform a combination of the following supportive functions, with the percentage of time performing each function to be solely determined by the superior based upon the requirements of the plant:
- Team member for problem solving to resolve production and quality issues.
- Participation in internal, regulatory and third-party audits.
- Participates in department training as a trainer and as a trainee.
- Keep effective working relationship with the staff and personnel contacted in the course of duties.
- Provides support for process improvement teams.
- Support the execution of scheduled routine preventive maintenance tasks on packaging equipment’s to ensure consistent and reliable operation.
- Routine operation tasks, such as monitoring the packaging equipment during the run, routine adjustments, weight checks and documentation of such activities in the batch record will be supported by packaging machine leader during peak workloads and as a backup while BFS operators are absent during paid time off or sickness.
- The packaging machine leader may be assigned other duties as needed or directed by the management to support the efficient functioning of the production process and overall organizational objectives.
