The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a highly competent Database Administrator (DBA), for both on-prem and AWS Cloud. The successful candidate has considerable hands-on experience managing multi-node, multi-TB, high-load clusters, and has worked in high-pressure environments interacting with Production, Development and Infrastructure teams to identify, chaperone and resolve issues in development and production. A deep understanding of and extensive work experience with Galera or Percona Cluster on MySQL and/or MariaDB is key. Relevant experience with industry security standards (PCI DSS, PCI 3DS) is a big plus.

The Role

As a MySQL Database Administrator at Entersekt, you will be part of a company that provides 24/7 support for mission-critical database systems for financial authentication solutions in the market. You will be responsible for performing daily database administration, database design and troubleshooting, replication, and performance tuning tasks for multiple MariaDB and MySQL Clusters in production and development.

Responsibilities

Database management:

  • Design, implement, and maintain MySQL/MariaDB database clusters.
  • Ensure the availability and performance of databases.
  • Perform regular database capacity planning and ensure proper storage management.
  • Replication between databases for high availability.

Database security:

  • Implement and maintain database security measures to protect sensitive data.
  • Manage user access and permissions.
  • Implement and maintain auditing functions.

Backup and recovery:

  • Develop and implement backup/recovery strategies.
  • Regularly test and verify backups to ensure data integrity.
  • Plan and execute database recovery procedures in case of failures.

Performance tuning:

  • Monitor and optimize database performance.
  • Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks.
  • Collaborate with team to improve query performance.
  • Tune database and platform configurations to utilize hardware capacity.

Database upgrades and patching:

  • Plan and execute database upgrades.
  • Determine short- and long-term upgrade paths and strategies.
  • Apply patches and updates to ensure database security and stability.

Troubleshooting:

  • Diagnose and resolve database-related issues.
  • Provide support to development teams in debugging database-related problems.

Skills and Experience

Successful candidates for this role will generally possess the following qualifications and skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field is preferred, but not required.
  • Proven 3+ years’ experience as a Galera or Percona cluster Database Administrator in a production environment.
  • Deep understanding of MySQL database architecture, administration, and performance tuning.
  • Hands-on experience with Galera or Percona Cluster.
  • Experience with data migration, backup, restore and recovery, resolving performance issues, blocking and deadlocks.
  • Experience in implementing and monitoring MySQL Cluster to provide high availability for mission critical events, database mirroring, replication, and log shipping.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or Perl for automation tasks.
  • Deep knowledge and understanding of one or more UNIX-like operating systems (server-side).
  • Experience with database security, backup and recovery, and disaster recovery planning.
  • Familiarity with version control systems, such as Git, for managing database config
