A Day in the Life
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Environmental Compliance Specialist to join our North Haven, CT, facility. This role is an exciting opportunity to contribute to Medtronic’s mission to reduce environmental impacts, maintain the safety of our employees, and ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations. The Environmental Compliance Specialist will help foster a culture of safety, environmental stewardship, and regulatory compliance across the site.
Key Responsibilities
Ensure environmental compliance for a manufacturing site.
Evaluate new construction projects, new processes, process changes, etc. and determines the regulatory impact including the need for permit changes. Implements the applicable regulations / company requirements.
Review and analyze environmental documentation issued by regulatory agencies and proposed regulations; determine applicability and impact to the site.
Interact with site management to ensure compliance to requirements, resolve compliance issues and implement environmental programs.
Ensure appropriate corrective action is taken where environmental incidents occur / hazards exist.
Work with cross functional team to investigate environmental incidents and ensures corrective / preventative actions are implemented.
Lead site Environmental Action Group (EAG) that monitors pollution prevention activities and supports efforts to reduce environmental impact.
Provide/promote employee awareness/training on matters of environmental regulatory and company requirements.
Manage hazardous waste compliance at a Large Quantity Generator (LQG), with support from 3rd party contractor.
Collect regulatory data from environmental monitoring systems (examples include gas chromatograph, heated flame ionization detector, wastewater monitoring SCADA system). Utilize the data to generate regulatory reports such as Discharge Monitoring Reports (DMRs), Bi-ennial Hazardous Waste, Sterilizer NESHAP, Tier II, TRI, and monthly / annual air emissions.
Manage Spill Prevention Control & Countermeasures (SPCC) and Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) inspections and follow-up corrective / preventative actions.
Collect and compiles site waste data for company sustainability reporting.
Wastewater and waste sampling; analyze sample results.
Stormwater sampling; complete Stormwater Monitoring Reports (SMR).
Must Have: Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree AND a minimum of 2 years related experience OR
Advanced degree with 0 years of experience
Nice to Have: Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of EPA and CT DEEP regulatory agencies' requirements.
Strong understanding of EHS regulations, best practices, and risk management strategies.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
