Job Description:

1.     Investigate/ research and reports on new research outputs and feasibility of applying genetics, genomics, new cutting-edge technologies and a variety of scientific principles and concepts in R&D plan, programs and procedures to improve products and services related to oil palm and other crops.

2.     Collect, scrutinize, curate, analyze and interpret genetic, genomic and breeding/ phenotypic data using Bioinformatics, Statistical and Quantitative genetics analyses tools, to better understand the heritability, breeding values, and genotype-environment interactions for trait improvement in oil palm and other crops.

3.     Plan, design and perform experiments related to functional genomics research to establish the fundamental understanding of genetic variations and genomics mechanism underlying the phenotypic traits in oil palm and other crops.

4.     Manages and implements regular maintenance of safety and biosafety documentations and procedures in laboratory, and assist in SOP/ work instruction/ HIRAC of allocated equipment/ chemical in the laboratory, both long and short term. Liaise with vendors to ensure PM and regular maintenance occurs, conduct basic troubleshooting of key instruments.

5.     Provides technical input and services to customers, and consultation for colleagues within unit and department.

6.     Analyzes research data and contributes to supporting role towards scientific/research papers, publications and IPs and major contribution in internal ATR.

7.     To prepare and conduct presentations internally and externally when required.

8.     Demonstrates potential for advance technical proficient, scientific creativity, collaboration with others and independent thought in project/unit.

9.     Provides scientific guidance and intra/inter-group training to junior staff (e.g. scientist, technician, protégé, internship student, staff).

10.     Assist in the preparation, planning and monitoring of annual budget for project cluster.

11.     Contribute, consolidate and translate ideas into research proposal inclusive of project direction, financial modelling, deliverables, ROI & FTE.

12.     Understand stakeholder's needs and assist team leader in promoting project deliverables aligned to company goals.
