Role Specific Details

This supervisor will support Accounts Payable and will report to the Manager of Accounts Payable. 

Role Summary

The Supervisor – Accounting Operations oversees the execution of monthly operational and accounting activities, audits, and reporting at Alaska Airlines. As a people leader, the Supervisor – Accounting Operations leads and establishes the priorities of their assigned teams ensuring Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX), Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and company policy compliance. 

Key Duties

  • Leads team and establishes priorities of the assigned teams ensuring Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX), GAAP accounting, and company policy compliance.
  • Plans work and ensures timely processing of transactions, including reallocation of employee workloads as appropriate.
  • Reviews and approves monthly journal entries and account reconciliations, contributing to accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Assists with preparation and submission of required government agency, tax and statutory filings and reports.
  • Contributes to the development of policies and procedures within the areas of responsibility, including developing, implementing, and maintaining robust internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure the accuracy of financial data, monitoring the effectiveness of controls.
  • Assists leadership with selection, implementation, and maintenance of software and systems that support efficient operations.
  • Effectively communicates financial information to leadership and other stakeholders.
  • Participates in internal and external audits and special projects, as needed.
  • Determines roles, responsibilities and hiring of Clerical Office and Passenger Service (COPS) union employees.
  • Develops people through effective performance management and ongoing feedback focusing on delegation, coaching, growing and developing team for capacity, managing performance of individuals in executing tasks, and time management.  

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Required 

  • 3 years of experience working within Accounting/Finance Operations or related areas.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration or related area, or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.
  • Basic knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to effectively interface with all levels in the organization.
  • Demonstrates and maintains advanced knowledge of company policies. 
  • Ability to initiate and facilitate on-going changes to automate and enhance department procedures.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • High school diploma or equivalent. 
  • Minimum age of 18.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. 

Preferred 

  • Familiarity with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements, Payment Card Industry (PCI) data security standards, and/or federal and state tax and labor reporting requirements, depending on area of support.
  • Large ERP system experience.
  • Experience with monthly journal entries and key account reconciliations.

Starting Rate

Salary Range

$88,800 -- $133,200 / year

Bonus

Salary Details

Pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Horizon employees. Alaska/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.

 

Note: We don’t typically hire at the top of the range.
