Job Description Qualifications:

Boeing Laser and Electro-Optical Systems (LEOS) is looking for Lead Embedded Hardware - Firmware - Software Integration Engineers (level 4 or level 5) to support cutting edge programs at our Albuquerque, NM location.

This Lead Embedded Hardware - Firmware - Software Integration Engineer will be working with a multi-disciplinary team supporting the development of systems for a variety of domains (ground, air and space) to support the development of high-performance electro-optical/infrared (EOIR) sensing systems and laser directed energy weapon systems.


Boeing Laser & Electro-Optical Systems (LEOS) develops cutting edge Directed Energy Weapons Systems for the US Department of Defense as well as state of the art Electro-optical sensors and processing for various customers including NASA, DHS and other organizations operating worldwide. LEOS has established itself as the Electro-Optical Center of Excellence within the Boeing Company.


We are located in Albuquerque, NM which boasts many world class technology organizations including Sandia National Laboratory, Los Alamos National Laboratory, Air Force Research Laboratory, Facebook, Intel, Boeing and many others. Albuquerque is located in central New Mexico and offers a unique southwest culture with an affordable cost of living and world class ski resorts, hiking, camping, fly fishing and unique arts and culture activities.

Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including; Level 4 and Level 5 Lead Embedded Hardware - Firmware - Software Integration Engineers.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Plan and lead the integration of real time embedded software and hardware for test and final configuration of aerospace systems

  • Develop detailed plans, schedule documents and maintain architectures, requirements, interfaces and designs for software/firmware systems deployed to custom hardware

  • Work closely with lead engineers, testers and operators to develops software integration plans, test procedures and test environments

  • Manage the execution of the test procedures and documents test results to ensure software system requirements are met and integration is completed in a timely manner

  • Perform project management and supplier management functions

  • Assist in developing, selecting, tailoring and deploying processes, tools and metrics

  • Execute and document software research and development projects

  • Serve as a subject matter expert for software and electrical hardware domains, system-specific issues, processes and regulations

  • Track and evaluate software and hardware teams and supplier performance to ensure product and process conformance to project plans and industry standards

  • Work under general direction

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position requires an active U.S. Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active)

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science

  • 5 or more years of experience in developing the avionics architecture supporting FPGA/firmware/software

  • 5 or more years of experience leading a software development team through the full software life cycle

  • Experience as a Software Architect and/or Lead Software Developer

  • (Level 5) 10 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Typical Education/Experience: 

(Level 4)

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
